This website is said to pay users for testing websites and apps. But can you really make money with Erli Bird, or is this another one of those options that is just not going to generate much income in the long run?
Are You Ready To Work Your Ass Off to Earn Your Lifestyle?
Are you tired of the daily grind? With a laptop and an internet connection I built a small website to generate income, and my life completely changed. Let me show you exactly how I’ve been doing it for more than 13 years.
We all know how important it is to make extra money nowadays. As you likely know, the US experienced a sharp economic downturn in December of 2007.
The recession, as it is now known, changed the economic landscape for a lot of people. But what it did the most was prove that even we, the modern, privileged humans living in the United States, need to be ready for harder times at all times.
And therein lies the importance of the side hustle.
Making Money With Erli Bird
I won’t spend a lot of time talking about this, but before we start talking about Erli Bird, I will give you a very brief overview about why I believe a quality side hustle is important to everyone who desires a stable, reliable income.
Why Have A Side Hustle?
The biggest reason, in my opinion, to start and maintain a side hustle or two is to work your way toward greater economic security. A job is all well and good, but what if you get sick or you get laid off? Even the most ‘secure’ jobs are at risk in certain situations.
If you lost your job unexpectedly, how long could you survive without that income before you come to ruin?
A side hustle that brings in some cash gives you more options. It helps you to provide your own safety net, and gives you freedom and flexibility.
Of course, in order for a side hustle to really work, it needs to meet some criteria. For one, it needs to be profitable. Second, it needs to be consistent. And third, it needs to be flexible (so that it can still allow you to do your job during the day).
I love the idea of using apps or websites to generate extra money because they have a lot of potential. So this is why I was interested in looking into Erli Bird.
But is Erli Bird a good choice for a side-hustle? They say that you can use it to test websites and apps, and get paid for doing so. But how much do you get paid, and how does it work?
This is what I wanted to look into next. So let’s talk about that.
My First Impression Of Erli Bird
My first impression of the site was actually rather positive. I noticed that they have been mentioned in some very prestigious news outlets, such as the New York Times, Drupe, Clef, and Musical.ly, among others.
The design of the home page is pretty slick. I liked the background, the tabs, the lettering, and the graphics. When you scroll down a bit from the initial landing page section, you also find a section outlining their products. Here is what that screen looks like.
As you can see, they offer basically three different products to companies who wish to pay them for their services. They offer beta testing, user feedback, and usability videos. And if I am not mistaken, these are also the products that the website pays its users to provide.
But, as of yet, everything that I had seen on the site was more geared toward the business that would pay the site for these products… not the user who wishes to get paid for them.
So my next step was to explore the site to see if I could find out how to tap into that part of it. The entire point here, after all, is to find a quality side hustle. So that is what I was after.
After looking over the site, I quickly realized that there was a header link posted in the upper-right hand corner. It said ‘Join As Beta Tester,’ and seemed to be the link that would take me to where I wanted to go.
Here is the page that I arrived at.
As you can see, beginning the ‘joining’ process is as simple as sharing your email. And if you scroll down a little bit, they feature a pretty simple ‘How It Works’ page that you can also access. Here is what that looked like.
Basically, there are three steps to this process.
- Test new apps, websites, and/or hardware
- Complete the tasks and give feedback
- Earn $10 per test, or even more in some cases
This was a pretty limited amount of information, but it absolutely told me what I needed to know. First of all, the process is simple. And secondly, it also pays pretty well. I have looked at quite a few of these types of sites in the past, and $10 per test is not a bad amount of money, really.
So now, I decided that it was time to actually sign up and see what else I could learn. Here is what happened when I did that.
Signing Up For Erli Bird
After filling out my email address, I was forwarded to a page where I was asked to create a new password, select what types of devices I would be using, select my age, and select my gender… among other things.
After filling all of this out, I was taken to this page.
Basically, it can take weeks or months to get your first testing assignment, which is a little bit of a downer. But, they also say that you can build up a reputation and get more assignments as you go, which will help you to get more work and to be ‘more established’ in their community.
I like that you can build up a positive reputation, but I also feel like it may be hard to tell when you would actually be getting a first assignment. And I have no way of knowing how often they send out work, so there are a lot of unknowns here that, in my opinion, take away from the quality of the experience.
But, with that being said, it is also fair to keep in mind that you don’t have to waste any time looking for work on the site, because they email you when work becomes available.
That means that it will not ‘waste’ your time to use this site, as you will not really be notified or need to spend any time on it unless you actually get a job.
This is an upside to the site, but is it enough of an upside to make the site worth visiting?
To help me answer this, I decided to look at some reviews of the site posted on other websites, just to see what they had to say about it.
Here is what I found out by doing so.
What Did Other Reviews Of Erli Bird Have To Say?
Unfortunately, I was not able to find a ‘super-informative’ review of Erli Bird. In fact, most of the reviews of it that I read didn’t seem to tell me much that I had not already found out.
I also found out that it was really hard to find feedback from someone who had actually ‘used’ the site. Like me, it seems that most of the reviewers had only signed up for it. None of them, as of yet it would seem, had had the option to actually use the site or make money from it.
I heard the site compared to other similar sites like it, but did not find any real, definitive information about how it actually works in practice.
So yeah. Long story short, researching reviews didn’t give me much to go on. I wished, at this point, that I knew more… but as it stood, I only really had the information that I had thus-far gathered from the source itself.
So here is what I came to figure out based on my findings.
My Personal Feelings About Erli Bird
Personally, I feel like this site is easy to use, and that it could potentially earn you some cash. I don’t think that it is going to qualify as a real, profitable side hustle for most, as there are limited numbers of jobs and it does take a while to get it up and rolling.
But if you stick with it and build up a reputation on the site, then it seems like it actually can be a viable possibility for making some money on the side.
I have signed up for it, but have not gotten any jobs. So we will see how it pans out.
This site will not make you rich, but it might be good for some extra pocket money.
In the meantime, there are other website testing options that provide you with work faster. Interesting examples include WhatUsersDo, TryMyUI and Userlytics.
