StudioD Review: Couldn’t Land A Writing Position!

studioD application process

GENERAL LOOK OF WEBSITE

Apply: https://create.studiod.com/application.html

StudioD had a very basic look. I wasn't even sure if this website was actually a way to apply for freelance writing jobs, or if the website was still active. As usual, I just grabbed this site from a listicle showing ways to make money writing online, so didn't know what to expect. Needless to say, I was a little hesitant to join a site that just has a title bar with clouds and the words ‘reliability and flexibility’.

What type of verifications are needed to get started?

Page one: You have to APPLY not register

  • name, city, postal code, country, phone (not required), email and password
  • Social: FB (must be a PAGE, not a personal profile), Twitter, blog/website, LinkedIN (make sure your profile is public—I had trouble with this…changed my profile and double-checked and they still said they ‘couldn’t access it’ will check back), Google+, Instagram, YouTube, Pintrest
  • Choose language, enter text, scroll through and agree to terms

Page two:

  • Select desired position: writer, editor, translator, translation reviewer, photographer, content reviewer
  • I chose writer, my status was ‘eligible) and I could apply.

Page three:

Sections

  • Arts and crafts. Gives examples of sites and says you must be an experienced crafter with photos of work
  • Automotive
  • Business and finance
  • Food: I applied for this. You must attach a writing sample as a PDF or URL, a resume, any qualifications you have and there is a space for further information.
  • Garden
  • Home
  • Home décor
  • Medical
  • Style I applied for this one based on my blog and just dance! Magazine.
  • Technology

How long did it take to set up a profile?

It took me about 35 minutes to set up my profile and apply. Once you apply, your qualifications are reviewed by the team. There is nothing else you can do at this point. There is no access to anything else at this point: no jobs, no forums etc.

Received email:

Wow! Confirmation that they are an active website taking applications! It appears I am eligible for: editing, translator, translation reviewer, photographer and content reviewer. My writing application is pending. So it seems I am eligible to APPLY but not yet work? This part is a bit confusing.

I sent another email on November 13, but never heard back. I guess this site's another dud (so far)

StudioD Final Review

It seems that StudioD is another one of these freelance-writer-hiring websites with the philosophy of “we'll email you if we need you”. For most writers, this won't work as a form of consistent income!

As a writer, I like to be in control of what jobs I land, and not just wait to see what lands across my table that week. Perhaps for someone that was writing as a hobby to earn some side cash, applying to several “maybe” jobs and just taking them as they come could work. However, for someone that wants to make a living writing online, I can't recommend StudioD at this time!

As a writer, you have an in-demand talent that can be used to earn you TONS of money online. You can earn money freelance writing, for sure, but it's still just trading dollars for hours. Personally, I recommend starting your own website! Information is the currency of the internet, so why not leverage your talents to build yourself a serious online income! Learn how to create your own blog-style website and make money through advertising.
