This website came to my attention because it was on a list of sources where you could write to earn extra cash as a freelancer. But can you really make money writing for the IncomeDiary website? Here is what I found out.

Making Money Writing For The IncomeDiary Website

First of all, I should say that I have been gathering information about websites like this because I have a theory about a really good side hustle that I think would prove quite lucrative.

In my online meanderings, I have noticed that there are a lot of websites that accept pitches and article submissions from freelancers, and that these sites will pay pretty handsomely for good pieces.

If you write for just one, or even two of these sites, the amount of money that you could make would be well worth the time—but the consistency would be low. So my idea is this…

If a person could compile a list of websites like this, and then cycle through those websites pitching articles to different sites on a fairly regular basis, then they could stand to actually make some pretty decent (and consistent) side hustle cash.

Of course, different sites pay out different amounts… and you would need to compile a list of sites that you would feel confident in writing for.

You would also need to understand that this idea is not fool-proof. Every writer gets pitches rejected now and then. But the good thing is that if a pitch gets rejected by one site, you could pitch it to another, and so on.

So I feel like there is a lot of value in compiling lists of websites like this, and IncomeDiary.com is one of the sites that I have decided to check out.

But will it live up to the hype? Is this the kind of site that I could spend serious time on and possibly earn extra money with?

This is what I was wondering. Here is what I found.

My First Impression Of The IncomeDiary Website

Right away, across the top of the header bar, I saw a little blurb that said ‘As Seen In…’ and then the logos for the New York Times, Business Insider, Reddit Homepage, and Twitter Trending On were all displayed. So yeah. Apparently, this site has gotten some pretty serious mainstream attention.

As far as the design of the site went, I liked it. It was basic, and had a very blog-esque feel to it. But that makes sense, because it is, in fact, a blog.

The colors were nice. I guess there were times when it almost felt a bit ‘generic’ to me, but then again, that is almost a style these days for some blogs. I think that it may be an offshoot of the ‘minimalist/clean/business’ style that a lot of blogs started adopting a few years ago, and I am seeing it more and more.

But anyway, no real complaints here. Everything seemed to be in order, generally speaking.

I also saw an advertisement for a free video, where you could sign up with your email address to learn how to gain attention to your blog.

But beyond this, when I scrolled down and came to the actual ‘meat’ of the site, I realized that this was pretty much a blog.

As you can see in this screenshot, the article topics were pretty much based on building a blog, building traffic to it, making it more marketable, etc.

Here, it is pretty easy to see what the main subject-matter of this blog post is… but this was further verified when I visited the ‘About’ page. Here is a small blurb from there.

“IncomeDiary provides the very best content for web entrepreneurs.”

They also go on to say…

“With over 400 blog posts, 7 educational courses and a best selling software product, we have influenced millions of people all around the world.”

Apparently, this publication got its start back in 2005, and was founded by Michael Dunlop. Their headquarters is in Brighton, UK.

At this point, I decided to look into some of the content for IncomeDiary, to see what kind of quality they look for in their articles. They do publish a lot of content, so I was interested in seeing exactly how good it was.

So here is what I discovered on that front.

Looking Into The Quality Of The Content On IncomeDiary

Looking into the quality of the content on the site, I was actually a bit surprised to find that some of it was very basic. The first post I read, while interesting, was almost a bit generic.

But the second was about a topic that I was not familiar about, and it actually did a pretty good job of communicating some quality learning points.

The articles were not necessarily entertaining. They were obviously good… but maybe not great.

Of course, different writers are going to have slightly different styles, and some topics are going to require more ‘hard facts’ than others. There is also something to be said about the difference between a writer who can craft just a well-written article, and a writer who can craft an article that is both well-written AND dynamic.

I guess what I am saying is that I do not imagine that it would be incredibly difficult to get your content published on this site… especially if you can write with an authoritative, knowledgeable voice on your topic.

But I was still not sure what the site paid or what their guidelines were. So I decided to look into that next.

Pitching Content To IncomeDiary.com

There was a ‘Write For Us’ button located in the footer, which made this page pretty easy to find. Here is a screenshot of what I found when I arrived.

First of all, the way you get paid writing jobs on this site is by subscribing to the site. They will then let you know when paid writing gigs become available.

I was pretty happy to see that they pay up to $200 for the highest standard of articles… though it sounds like the pay may vary based on the writer and on the standard of writing being submitted.

They actually publish a lot of content on their site about how to write articles that people will pay for, and they link to these articles on this page, which is pretty awesome.

They also have a pretty long list of topics that they want their writers to write about. It includes such topics as creating great content, interviews with experts, driving traffic to websites, blog design features, creating information and digital products, and more.

There is a lot more information provided on this page than I could list in one review… but if I had to summarize my experience with it, it would be ‘very good.’ I feel like the website does a really good job of explaining what they want freelancers to know, and I feel like they do a pretty good job of supplying information that would help writers to craft quality content for them.

It is also worth mentioning that you also get your name listed as being the writer of your article if they decide to publish it, which is awesome because it gives you credit for your creative work. You could reference back to it, then, as a published work when trying to get other writing jobs.

At any rate, at this point, I felt like I had compiled enough information to form my final opinion of IncomeDiary.com. Here is what I came to decide.

My Personal Feelings About IncomeDiary.com

I actually like this site as an option for writing freelance content to make extra money. They have a pretty big reader base, so even if you don’t make a lot of cash on your first few posts, the exposure can still be worth your while. But I also like how much they pay for premium posts.

If you are interested in writing some more serious web content about the internet, content, blogging, marketing, driving content to websites, or anything else along these lines, then this could absolutely be the kind of website that you should look into.

They apparently send out notifications when they need new content, so the best way to get started is to subscribe. You may be able to cold-pitch to them as well, though I will admit that, from the looks of it, you may have a more difficult time getting them to buy your pitch if you do that.

But, this seems to be a pretty awesome website that you can make pretty good extra money with. You may not get rich writing for The IncomeDiary, but you can also stand to make quite a bit if you are an accomplished writer and can find the right kinds of topics to pitch them.

This isn’t the only option for people interested in writing about the internet and blogging. Another option is RankPay, which focuses on SEO. There is also the site WealthyWebWriter. This one talks about making money online as a writer, which is pretty cool.
