FuntasticToy
This is great, alas now we can easily part ways from Amazon at their atrocious 3%.
We were looking for all the affiliate programs out there, that can offer better commissons for our toy store funtastictoy.com and finally landed here.
Thank you Nathan.
David Hersh
Great resources, thanks. BUT, 5-10% commission doesn’t seem worth my time. If you think about it, I would have to get my website visitors to buy $100,000 in order to get about $8000 in commissions. After taxes, that’s closer to a net profit of $5000.
I don’t think it would be easy to sell $100,000 worth of educational toys.
I think there are better ways to make money than this one, or most affiliate programs that pay so low.
Nathaniell
I think you are underestimating how many parents there are who want their kids to be smart. “Toys” are a multi-billion dollar industry. Selling $100,000 worth of toys online is very do-able.
In fact, I wrote a blog post exactly about this, about how I make $90k/year with tiny commissions.
David Hersh
Thanks for the reply Nathaniell. On the same line of thinking…let’s assume that if i were to sell $100,000 of products at an average of 7% (which is still a bit high for toys), I would earn $7000. Again, after taxes, I would pocket about $4000.
Now, let’s assume I sold $1,000,000 worth of children’s toys/products. That should get me about $70,000 in commissions and $40,000 or so after taxes.
Are you telling me that selling $1,000,000 is also do-able? That seems like a ton of products to sell. Even if the average toy/child’s product is $10, I would have to sell 100,000 products to sell $1,000,000 worth.
I’m not seeing it.
If I’m off on my calculations, or if I’m not seeing the big picture, please tell me. I would like to get into this niche, but the math doesn’t add up.
Nathaniell
I think you are overestimating how much you pay in taxes for a $70k income. With write-offs and rebates, etc, you take home much closer to what you make.
But you are correct that the numbers can be staggering. It’s very doable though. If you sell $1mil in product and earn 10%, you take home $100k pre-tax. At 5%, to earn $100k, you’d have to sell $2mil in product. Sounds crazy saying it that way, but it’s true, and possible.
Of course, that doesn’t mean you have to lock yourself into selling cheap products. Most niches have ways to expand into more profitable products. Especially if you’re talking about educational toys, you could easily include things like iPads and other electronics in what you promote. A kid that wants to learn about coding may want to code his own drone flight path, so you could promote $1,000 drones. You’re not locked into selling $20 “smart baby” books.

Thank you Nathaniell,
Your website keeps popping up on so many of my search queries. And you always have valuable information that I was looking for. You really got your s*** together.
Nathaniell
Thanks Skillit! I try my best 🙂

Thanks, Nathaniell (and friend/partner) !
You look like a sincerely nice person. I have been interested in this type of business “forever,” but need the simplified version. I’m fairly business savvy, but not a computer whiz, to put it mildly. Have you helped folks like me create profitable web sites ? Do you offer phone consultation, if things become confusing ? Hope to hear from you soon. Many Thanks ! 😊
Nathaniell
I don’t offer phone consultation – I just wouldn’t have enough time in the day to talk to everyone. All personal support is handled through this place. I do answer comments on my blog as well as emails, but responses are slower and less detailed (just when I have time).
I also have free tutorials on my site, aimed at newbies. Pick your website topic, and take action from there 🙂
