Quora is a social medium platform where people can ask questions, and get them answered by the other users of the site. But can you really make money on Quora?
I've gotten a few ‘hits' on this during my research, and so I decided to pursue it.
What I found was quite interesting.
There are really two different ways to earn money on the popular social media platform… though one of them certainly seems to be more effective than the other.
Let's explore them.

How To (Potentially) Make Money On Quora
Quora is a pretty simple platform. People start discussions by asking questions, and then those discussions continue as other people answer them.
People can also comment on answers, and so on.
As far as I can tell, there are two different ways to leverage Quora to potentially make it work for you monetarily.
One option is to join the Quora Partner Program, and one is to leverage Quora as a means to help other people, and showcase your status as a professional at the same time.
Starting a profile on Quora can also help you with reputation management for SEO… as it is a highly searchable platform on Google.
Let's get into each one of these options and take a closer look.
The Quora Partner Program
The Quora Partner Program is basically a program where people write engaging questions on Quora, and are then rewarded for doing so through monetary compensation.
The program is invite-only, and it is actually shrouded in secrecy. There is very little information about it online.
But from what I've gathered, here is what we know.
- It is an invite-only program
- You get paid to post questions
- For the most part, the best potential way to get selected for this program is to ask quality questions and give quality answers on a regular basis
There are some downsides to this entire idea, though.
If you start researching the Quora Partner Program on Quora itself, it won't take long to come across comments about it that really berate the platform for even doing this.
One user commented on the program, saying that ‘it was contributing to a falseness on the site that used to be real people asking real questions, and answering questions to truly help people.'
Apparently, the partner program tends to result in a lot of ‘click-baity' questions that don't serve much real purpose, aside from trying to start conversations.
There was a press release on the site that announced the program back in April of 2018. You can view the announcement here.
How Much Can You Earn With The Quora Partner Program?
Interestingly, thanks to Quora, this question has already been asked, and has also been thoroughly answered… but the members of the community!
Check out this thread for the entire discussion.
But here are the highlights.
- Some people earned less than a dollar over the course of 30 days
- Some people earned thousands of dollars
- The way questions are paid for by Quora makes it to where posting a large number of questions that will actually get answers is where the money is at
- In 2018, the top earner on Quora earned over $26,000 dollars, averaging about 45 questions asked per-day
As you see, it is absolutely possibly to make money in the program. But you have to ask some serious questions.
And, once again, it is not so difficult to see why people would have a problem with this. It is kind of like ‘cheating' to get questions.
But it is also generating a lot of traffic for Quora… so the upsides probably definitely outweigh the downsides.
The bad part of all of this is that you cannot join the program on your own. You need to be invited to it by Quora.
Using Quora As A Platform For Your Own Professional Trade
The other part of making money on Quora revolves around building a profile, answering questions that you tend to answer in your everyday business, and potentially gaining business off of those questions when people realize how much of an expert you are.
When you build a profile on Quora, you can add not only profile credentials, but also a description about yourself.
One interesting thing about this is that you can include not only images in your description, but also links!
So you could, in theory, link to your website or business page.
Here is an example of how you could leverage this to help you grow your profession or business.
Using Quora To Grow Your Business
One reason that people love Quora is because it helps them to gather information on a very specific question from other users.
Let's say that someone is having a lot of trouble losing weight… and you just happen to be a personal trainer.
You could answer their question, giving them all kinds of high-quality information, casually letting them know that you are a personal trainer as well, so they know that your opinion has valid weight.
Then, you link to your website in your description!
If you give awesome answers on Quora, there is a very good chance that people will follow your links and see what what you are doing.
If they are in the place to hire a personal trainer, and you really strike a chord with them, there is actually a good chance that they will at least consider using your services… especially if you can offer something online.
It may not be an incredibly reliable source of traffic.
But it is what it is. Quora is a social media platform!
That is what it was designed to be… and that is what it is.
You Have To Be Careful With Quora, Though!
If you post too much, or start putting links into your posts too often, Quora may flag you for spam.
Here is an article where a guy was getting serious traction on the platform… only to get banned from it!
If you aren't careful, you could get the ban-hammer… and then all of your hard work might be for nothing!
My Personal Feelings About Using Quora To Make Money
Quora is similar to most other social media platforms in this regard.
If you are obviously using it to try to make money, your efforts are probably going to look like it… and that will contribute to a decreased amount of success, if not an outright ban.
But if you legitimately use Quora in an attempt to add value to people's lives, and to help them in whatever particular field you happen to be an expert in, then that may also translate to traffic… because when people see that you have the knowledge and/or experience to help them solve their problems, they will be that much more likely to turn to you.
And when they see that you are willing to do it for free, without shamelessly plugging your business… that is really cool, and they will pick up on that.
It is really all about adding value to people's lives. If you do that enough, it will eventually come around, and you will get customers.
What Do I Think Of The Quora Partners Program?
This program can be surprisingly lucrative.
But I also feel that it would take a lot of work to get it to that point. I could also absolutely foresee the payments for it decreasing in the future.
That is how these things tend to go. They tend to start out really strong, paying really well to get it started… and then the money all kind of shifts up and down, and it all evens out to where the company paying for the service maximizes their profit and limits their expenditures.
Note that there is no guarantee of this happening. But since the program was only created in 2018, it still hasn't been in place for that long!
Plus, you cannot really count on it because there is no way to know whether or not you are even going to be invited to it!
Is Social Media Marketing Really Good For Business?
There are a number of ways to earn money on social media, and even more effective ways to market your business on them.
But it is also important to view social media for what it is.
It isn't a blog or YouTube.
It is literally something that you need to educate yourself about. Content also ‘goes under' quite quickly on social media, as it isn't really searchable in most cases.
For best results, you should probably choose one or two social media platforms and go all in on those platforms. That is usually better than taking a shotgun approach to social, and trying to do a little bit everywhere!
