If you're not using Video Marketing as part of your overall marketing strategy – you're missing out on a lot of potential traffic heading to your website.
And that also means you're leaving money on the table!
Before I get into things, I want to share with you some stats about video marketing so you understand why video marketing is a must.
- Top Rank finds that online video is expected to grow more then 55% and is the top form for content marketing.
- Video has a 41% higher click thru rate than plain text.
- iMediaConnection predicts that 90% of all web traffic will be reached through video by 2014.
YouTube Is A Search Engine
Many people think YouTube is just a place to upload videos, yeah that's true but it's also the 2nd largest search engine online with over 400 billion (yep billion) views per day!!
And over 800 million users. That is a HUGE audience you can tab into!!
Each and everyday people head to YouTube searching for answers, products and services. And using video is the perfect medium for combining Audio and Visual to engage with your customers and future customers.
How To Engage Your Viewer?
1) Tell A Story
Telling a story pulls people into your video and gets people engaged. It also makes you authentic to your viewers because they'll see you as a real person.
Think of when a friend of you told a story how many times did you connect with them when they told it? A bet a bunch of times and you did that because you started relating it to your own experiences.
This is the best way to put your content and message into context.
But don't just stand there in front of the camera talking to people. That gets boring real fast and you'll have more people clicking away from your video faster then you can say “Thanks for Watching”
And to maximize your story you need to…
2) Use Music
Adding music to your video creates emotion. By using the right music you can dictate exactly how you want your viewer to feel. Just imagine watching a movie if it had no music, personally I would not last 5 minutes.
Same goes for your video not having music.
You can find royalty free music at places like AudioJungle.net, Pond5 and www.PremiumBeat.com
3) Use B Roll
Ok what the heck is B Roll?
That's a fancy film term for secondary footage. Just like music this secondary footage adds life to your video. You've heard the saying “A picture is worth a 1000 words”
So instead of talking about something within your video you can add some B Roll footage and save yourself a ton of time and get your message across faster as well as in a more entertaining way to your viewer.
4) Just Talk To People
Remember you'r not a broadcaster on CNN and you're not in some huge auditorium talking to 5000 people.
When you make your videos you're making them for just one person. The more you can look into that camera and just see one person on the other side the more engaging your video will be.
People want real people. They want authenticity – so just talk to people – use conversational language and save the $10 words for your master thesis (if you ever write one). And remember to use the word “YOU” as much as you can.
5) Tell People What To Do
Never assume people know what you want them to do. You have to tell them. So if you want people to click a link, go to your website, download a file or subscribe to your YouTube channel – you have to tell them to.
You to reinforce this action add graphics to your video like a “Click Here” button or point to the subscribe button on your Channel page within your video.
And that's it. I can't say it enough don't try to be Spielberg, because you're not. Just be yourself and have fun!!
By using the tips I listed above you'll see a big difference in the effectiveness of your videos.
And remember forget trying to get things perfect. I was once told DONE trumps PERFECTION.

Yes you are right. YouTube is the second largest search engine and it is the very effective way to engage with users. Just by uploading a video here, we can get many viewers and we can also convert those viewers into customers, but a proper optimization is necessary to do this.
“Done beats Perfection.”
I couldn’t have said so better myself. Thanks for the excellent post!
