It’s easy to imagine the internet as the realm of nerds and geeks, primarily male, but that isn’t the case anymore. You find all types of people online and the amount of people using the internet continues to grow. This makes earning money online a fantastic opportunity for anyone, even for people who do not have any experience at all. For many women, earning money online may seem impossible or scary, because many of the concepts are unfamiliar. I want to take a little time and share with you some of the tips I have found about earning money online as a woman.
1. Establish boundaries with customers
You don’t directly deal with customers in all forms of online business. In fact, many people who earn money online do not have customers that they interact with. This tip is mainly related to earning money through freelancing, where you are selling services online, often through freelance sites. For example, the main way that I earn money online is as a freelance writer, and sometimes dealing with clients can be quite challenging.
Some clients tend to believe that they can get away with more when they are dealing with a woman, something I learned the hard way. Regardless of how much you like a client you are interacting with, never give them the benefit of the doubt. If you set clear boundaries in place you can ensure that you always know how to respond to clients.
For myself, one of the boundaries I established relatively early was to always get a portion of money up front, and the remainder when the order is complete, but before I give it to the client. This approach has lost me clients in the past, but not many. It is much safer that assuming that clients will keep to their word when they have little incentive to.
2. Be yourself
Most forms of online business involve some form of writing. This could include writing a personal blog or a blog for someone else, writing applications for freelance jobs or writing posts for affiliate marketing. When it comes to writing, it is very easy to try and mimic the style of someone else.
The problem with this is that it is very hard to keep going in the long-term and it makes it much harder to gain the trust of the people that you are talking to. I don’t suggest you share you most intimate secrets in your writing, but giving your readers a sense of who you are, and following your own writing style can help to personalize your writing and make it more interesting.
3. Look into training
If you are new to earning money online, or even if you have been doing it for quite some time, it can be worth going through training. I have been earning money through freelancing online for a couple of years without actually going through any form of training, or even reading advice from other people. I was successful, but I made a lot of mistakes along the way, some of which could easily have been much worse.
Recently I’ve been going through training at Wealthy Affiliate University for affiliate marketing. I didn’t expect to learn a lot, but I have learned so much about affiliate marketing, and a lot of other things that will help me to improve my ability to freelance. It’s something I really recommend trying out, and I’m posting on here once a week about my progress.
