Snagit is a tool that I use every day for websites in multiple niches, so I’d like to introduce you to it. In this review of Snagit, you’ll find out what it can do, what I personally use it for, and how it can make your online business more profitable.
What Can Snagit Do?
Snagit is a screenshot or screen capture tool. Yeah, all computers come with a built in screenshot feature, but the function of this feature is very limited. Normally, you can just get a picture of your whole desktop and you have to use an external editing program to edit the image.
With Snagit, immediately you have the advantage because you can choose any portion of the screen by simply dragging and dropping a box to the size you want.
Just click and drag the crosshairs to choose portion of the screen you want to grab a shot of. Immediately, you’ll be taken into the image editor, with lots of push-button effects you can use to edit your image.
1. Tools: Choose text bubbles, arrows, stamps, a highlighting tool, blurring tool, or crop your image
2. Effects: Create borders, shadows, and other ways to frame your image
3. Toggle the properties of tools or effects
4. Select the image you want to edit. You can copy/paste across multiple documents or create a new blank one
5. Upload your image to screencast.com and share a screenshot with anyone on the internet. Just like this one! http://www.screencast.com/t/w4b1apOOt You can also save images to Google drive or email them to someone
Snagit is not a full function image editor like Photoshop or Gimp, but it does provide a enough basic features that you don’t have to spend weeks learning how to use it.
What Do I Use Snagit For?
For Reviews: Proof, Support, Examples
Because my website One More Cup of Coffee does a lot of reviews of internet marketing tools, I use Snagit every day to take screenshots for my reviews. If I read a guide and find something I like, I can capture that text, highlight what I want to show, and put that image in my review as an example of what I mean.
If I review a tool and find similar products at different prices, I can screenshot the prices to prove that they are available for cheaper or more expensive at other places.
Basically, I use it to prove a point, show an example, or provide support for my arguments.
For Technical Support And Sharing Screenshots
Another thing I use Snagit a lot for is for helping people build their websites or troubleshoot problems they are having. By using screencast.com, I can upload any image I make with snagit to the internet, and share a link with other people online.
The cool thing is that I can upload edited images, meaning I can add arrows to show where people need to make edits on their website, or blur out sensitive information in my screenshots.
“A picture is worth a thousand words” has saved me many hours of technical support!
Sprucing Up Product Images
Both examples above are specific to my niche. But for my other niches, I just use it to make my product images look better. I also use it for easy image cropping.
For example, here’s an image I created for my homebrew website:
I took those photos with my iPhone, sent them to my iMac via bluetooth, then used Snagit to screenshot the pictures and edit them in just a few minutes into the collage. Then, I just went onto my website and used Snagit again to screenshot that portion of the blog, and added an arrow to demonstrate which part of the picture I’m talking about.
Umm, this is starting to feel a bit like the movie Inception (screenshot within a screenshot), so I hope you are following along, lol.
Here’s another image I made for my beer website, comparing styles of holding a specialty glass. Again, this took just a few minutes and some pictures from my iPhone.
And one more example of another glassware review, I took a screenshot from Amazon then added some commentary.
Making awesome images in a short amount of time with Snagit is easy, and this is why it’s my go-to editing tool. I’d rather create a simple, beautiful, and unique image in a few minutes than spend 20 minutes to fire up Photoshop and go through the rigamarole of downloading, importing, editing, exporting, and uploading to reach a final product I can use. Adding 2-3 images per post can tack on another 30-45 minutes to the time it takes to publish a blog post.
Snagit makes it so much faster!
How Can Snagit Make My Business More Profitable?
If you do reviews of digital products like I do on One More Cup of Coffee, then visit just a few of my blog posts and you’ll see how useful this piece of software can be. I use it in every single blog post.
For anyone that’s doing product reviews, Snagit can make your business more profitable simply by making your website look better.
- Your blog posts will be more user friendly
- Your reviews will look more attractive
- Your website will be more colorful
- You will be a more versatile marketer
Have you ever seen a great product image on your affiliate vendor but it had too much white space?
You can fix that!
Did you find a great free image on Flickr you want to use but it’s too “busy” and you want to edit out the junk?
You can do that too!
Frustrated because images are too long or wide or the wrong shape for your blog post?
Even if you just want to add a shadow or border to all of the images for your product reviews to make them look more professional, that can add a whole new level of “authority” to your website.
You can even take photos with your smartphone and upload them to your computer, then crop and add effects for copyrighted pictures that no one else can use on their website! This is a great way to add value to your blog, and make it a unique resource of information in crowded niches.
In summary, Snagit can make your website
- more attractive
- more unique
- more helpful
And all of those things will translate to more profit.
Where to get Snagit?
Snagit is available at Techsmith.com and you can grab your copy there. Unfortunately, they don’t have an affiliate program! However, if you would liked this review and found it helpful, you can also download the newest version of Snagit from Amazon.com through my affiliate link.
Technically, I’m not supposed to list the price here because of Amazon’s Affiliate guidelines so please click over to view the current price. Sorry about that. It’s available for digital download which means you can always retrieve your download if you change computers somewhere down the road!
Have any questions? I’ll be happy to answer them in the comment area.
PS. Snagit is available for Mac and Windows. I’ve used both, and the Windows version is slightly bette than than the Mac version IMO because it has more features. The one you saw used in this review was the Mac version.
PSS. Snagit also has a video capture function! I don’t use it very much because I use a different program to record screencasts, but if you do video tutorials, you can create custom size MP4s with the same crosshair feature shown in the beginning of this review.
PSSS. Many of the images you see on my website, including those on the homepage and sidebar were created using Snagit 11 🙂

But I also used it to get support! You can see from the image below that I needed to describe something so instead of using a bunch of jumbled words and someone maybe misunderstanding, I just posted pics that they can access. It also saves me the time of having to upload the screenshots to a place like Imgur or other file sharing website. Sharing screenshots is instant with screencast.com (membership included with Snagit purchase)
