What is it?
Serious Bloggers Only was created by popular blogger, Jon Morrow to help new and struggling bloggers with all the things you need to know if you want to start, maintain and grow a profitable blog.
Jon Morrow’s name has become synonymous with quality blogging information and Serious Bloggers Only only helps to cement his reputation. This a great product for newbies and advanced bloggers alike. It provides all the things I look for in a quality product. I have no problem recommending this course to almost everyone.
Before You Buy
As I said before, Jon Morrow is well-known in the blogosphere. He has a popular blog, Boost Blog Traffic, and an even more popular blogging course — a different blogging course, not the one I'm reviewing right now.
That course is called “Guest Blogging”. It’s my understanding that Jon Morrow’s “Guest Blogging” course is strictly for those who are interested in learning how to start or grow their blog through guest blogging on other popular blogs, like Huffington Post for example.
I’ve never seen the inside of that course but I’ve heard lots of good things about. I can only imagine that it’s great with Jon at the helm. The price? Well, greatness doesn’t come easily (or cheap) The cost for Guest Blogging is $591 or three payments of $197, which is why I’ve never seen the inside of it (lol). I’d love to review someday soon though.
What I Liked
The main thing I like about Serious Bloggers Only is that I feel like it’s a more complete solution than many of the other products I’ve reviewed recently. In fact, I don’t feel like it’s a “product” at all — it’s a membership site — and it provides a community and information for different experience levels and different learning styles. That’s what makes it a good product.
When you buy other products you typically get an ebook or a video, or maybe you get a few videos behind a login wall, but that’s it. That’s a product. Serious Bloggers Only is more like a community, which is what I’m used to.
Full of Valuable Information
It’s very clear as soon as you enter the members area that Serious Bloggers Only is full of information. There’s a menu at the top that shows you the main areas of the site.
The “courses” page is the main page and it contains about fifteen courses that discuss different areas of blogging. Each course is made up of about five or six smaller lessons, usually ebooks; one main guide and four or five that are for resources, checklists and things like that. Many of them even contain a few short, five to ten minute videos. But mostly, the courses are made up of ebooks.
Serious Bloggers Only even has its own blog, which is odd for a membership site, especially this one considering Jon runs another blog too. It’s surprising to see all the information here, and when you dive in to the topics it’s even more surprising, because a lot of it is stuff you wouldn’t even think of. Which brings me to my next point.
Everything about Serious Bloggers Only is great for beginners. There is plenty of advanced stuff but it’s not so advanced that a new blogger wouldn’t understand it.
With membership sites like this one it’s important to create a balance of experienced members as well as beginners. If you don’t do that then the newbies have no one to learn from, well, except the creator but that doesn’t always work out.
Finding that beginner/experience balance is difficult but Jon, and the members of Serious Bloggers Only have managed to pull it off nicely. You can look at the topics inside the SBO forum and see exactly what I’m talking about.
Just by looking at the topics of the forum you can see that it’s easy for any member, experienced or new, to find what they would need. Topics like Content and First steps are obviously for beginners, while other topics might be suited for more experienced bloggers.
Support and Community
If you’ve read any of my other reviews you know that I place a lot of importance on support and community. That’s because support is one of the most important things that help new marketers become successful. Without support you are truly on your own. So when you buy product without it you’re more likely to fail, get stuck or give up entirely.
Serious Bloggers Only has one of the best types of support: A community.
That means when you get stuck you can go ask members of the community for help. Now, it’s just a forum but they do also have a contact page where you can reach out to them directly.
Also, there’s a forum monitor, Marsha, who seems to watch over the forum and help to answer any questions. She’s pretty active too, I’ve seen her post replies to more than a dozen forum topics, and that was me skimming through. I’m sure I’d see more if I looked a bit longer.
They even have specific forum threads for support, and members helping members.
It’s just good to see an active community, trust me, it helps.
What I Didn't Like
No product is perfect. And although there’s not too many things I didn’t like about Serious Bloggers Only, there is one important thing I want to mention.
It’s not uncommon for membership sites like this one to offer free or discounted rates for a trial period. Unfortunately, Serious Bloggers Only doesn’t offer anything like that.
When it comes to monthly costs I think it’s only fair to let new members see what they’re getting themselves into before they commit.
Jon’s $49/monthly fee isn’t outrageous, but not everyone can afford it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen terrible products that charged way more for admittance but new members should get a free, or discounted peek so they can compare it to their other options. By not doing this, I think Jon has limited himself, his community and probably quite a few people that could really benefit from what he’s offering.
