Personally, affiliate marketing is something that is new to me, and I didn’t really know what to expect with the training. I have just finished my second week of training and I want to share with you a little bit about what it has been like. If it looks like I’m going slowly, that’s mostly just because I’m only doing five or so hours a week, so bear with me.
Making the website
So, I ended last week finding a niche for my website. That took me a bit longer than it should have because I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and I wanted to pick something that would work well. In reality, I would have been better off spending a little less time, given the website I’m building is mainly just for my training, I don’t expect to make a lot of profit off it.
For my training, I’m following the lessons on Wealthy Affiliate in the order they are given and going through each step. This can be a little tedious, because I really just want to get on and get the website up and running, but in the long-term, I think the lessons that I am being taught are more important.
The website making itself is very easy through Wealthy Affiliate, and uses the WordPress engine. WordPress is something I have used for websites before, and this website even uses WordPress. I love WordPress because it is really easy to use, and Wealthy Affiliate really steps you through the process well.
Progress, kind of
I am really happy with the lessons I’ve been learning, and the process of building my website, but what’s interesting is that pretty much all the work I have done this week has been setting up. My website itself looks exactly the same as it did when I made it right at the start of the week, which to be honest sucks a little bit, but hopefully it will look more interesting next week.
So, what have I been doing?
Well, most of the work this week has been stuff to do with Search Engine Optimization (SEO). I actually have some experience in SEO, but nowhere near the level that I am being taught through Wealthy Affiliate. I’m actually really impressed by how simple the Wealthy Affiliate makes learning SEO, because SEO can be complex.
A big part of what I have been looking at is finding good keywords to target within my site and work out how many other websites there are competing for the same keywords. I successfully found a number of keywords for my niche and I can see how I will be able to write content based on these keywords.
