What Is It?
A plug-in based system for building email lists from squeeze pages.
Before You Buy:
Profit Funnel System is an approach to earning money online that focuses on building and taking advantage of email lists. In general, the system focuses on two key aspects:
Like many other approaches, Profit Funnel System makes use of affiliate marketing processes, meaning that users do not need to have their own product to take advantage of the system.
When you purchase the product you get three key things.
- A WordPress plugin that is the core product. This can be installed on any webpage that uses a WordPress theme.
- Step-by-step videos of how to use the plugin
- Action plans (pdf)
There is also an upsell of the ‘Pro’ version of the product, which also contains tracking capability and another upsell of ready to go squeeze pages (5-pack or 10-pack) for a range of niches.
The product itself is a largely (but not fully) automated system that works as a WordPress plugin, designed to get subscribers and turn these into profit.
What I Liked:
Most online products use the ‘Only 5 Left’ approach to selling products, where there really is an infinite number of products.
Personally, I think it is a very manipulative tactic, because it makes users hurry to purchase without doing any research beforehand.
However, in the case of Profit Funnel System, the approach was somewhat legitimate as the number did decrease after I purchased a copy for this review. I also noticed earlier reviews listing a lower price for the product, suggesting it really does go up in price over time.
Now, I still think it’s a manipulative approach, but I was impressed that the author handled this legitimately.
The fact that the training videos provided with the subscription were over-the-shoulder is an advantage as this makes it easy for people to follow along.
What I Didn’t Like:
The idea of building lists to make profit online is not a new one and for many people, building a list is an effective way of making money online. However, it is critical to understand that making the list is only part of the process, and the quality of the list is just as important as its quantity.
One of the points that the author makes about Profit Funnel System is that it is very good at getting subscribers.
Honestly, I don’t care.
How many subscribers the system gets is nowhere near as relevant as whether these subscribers are actually interested in what is being sold, or whether they are interested in buying anything for that matter.
I would rather have 100 subscribers interested in the topic and looking for a product than 350 who are some of the ‘lost’ traffic that gets caught up in the mix.
The Profit Funnel System is advertised as an easy, and automated approach of building a list and making profit.
However, it’s important to note that this system isn’t as straightforward as it seems.
For starters, you do have to have some concept of internet marketing and making money online to know what products to choose to try and sell, and the approaches needed to sell them.
Adding new subscribers to your list is great, but this is only part of the story. Users still have to sell to these subscribers. This can actually be very challenging if you don’t know much about marketing products to start off with.
The thing is, people are used to getting emails that try to sell them stuff.
Every day my inbox is filled with spam from all types of places, many of them containing squeeze pages like Profit Funnel System creates. In fact, most of these messages end up in my spam box, even though I don’t have specialized filters set up and am just using a basic email program.
However, on someone’s system, I am coming up as a subscriber.
This suggests that there is much more to actually selling something than just making subscribers and the more people are trying to sell in this way, the less effective it will be.
As is normally the case, finding actual information about Profit Funnel System is very difficult to do. The sales page itself is filled with grand claims of the tool and the training.
The problem is claims like this don’t really say a lot. In a single case, the ‘simple’ system offered in Profit Funnel System resulted in 102 subscribers and $139.21 in profits within a 24 hour period.
Okay, sounds great. So, does that mean it will do this every time?
Of course not.
Every person using this system will have a slightly different approach and will be promoting different products, in different ways, at different prices.
Clearly, the results are going to be all over the board. In reality, most online products, even those that do work, are only effective for a small subset of people. These are the people with the exact background and skill set needed to make it work.
A lot of people do this, they spend lots of money on ‘miracle’ products, that either didn’t work, or weren’t suitable to them to start off with. However, Profit Funnel System really isn’t that different.
The ‘proof’ of the systems effectiveness is the growth in traffic and in commissions. These don’t mean anything, because there is no real way of knowing what was actually done to get this level of interest within 24 hours.
In particular, Brett Ingram is an experienced internet marketer who has used email lists before (clearly, he developed Profit Funnel System). This means he probably already has a following and there are many people who would subscribe to something simply because he is promoting it.
It’s also worth noting that there is no way of knowing how much work was actually done to the websites before these statistics were taken.
Profit Funnel System vs Other Approaches
One of the key points of the sales page (or squeeze page) for Profit Funnel System, is how much better this approach is compared to ‘typical’ ways of making money online.
I have some major issues with this illustration. For starters, it is not a typical system at all. There has been a steady movement away from the use of squeeze pages and hard sells, and towards sites that present themselves as authorities or sell multiple different products.
My second major issue with this illustration is that if it is so inefficient, why is Profit Funnel System promoted in exactly this way? The next image used to compare Profit Funnel System with ‘typical’ system of making money doesn't do a lot better.
Again, there really is no typical system to start off with, which kind of eliminates the whole message of the image.
If we assume for the money that a typical make money system involves promoting affiliate products on a website, which contains both content and affiliate links (which is one of the most common approaches), then the diagram is comparing apples and oranges.
At the end of the day, each approach to make money online has different methods and achieves their outcomes in different ways. Affiliate approaches to marketing, for example, tend to involve building relationships and reputation.
This means that there isn’t a ‘$225 Loss’, but simply that money comes in at different times. Also, ‘typical’ systems do end up with fewer subscribers, simply because they don’t focus on getting subscribers in the first place.
After all, if you are trying to get your readers to trust you, spamming them with emails isn’t the best way, regardless of how much information is in the emails. My point is, Profit Funnel System is no better than ‘typical’ systems of making money online, despite all the claims that it makes.
In fact, it isn't even that unique.
Inside the Product Itself
Aside from upsells, the product page itself is very simple and contains six tutorial videos, the WordPress plugin in itself and two very basic PDFs. The videos themselves are over-the-shoulder, which are useful for training, although they are relatively short.
It’s very important to note that even though Profit Funnel System is advertised as being automated, users still have to put all the content needed for their squeeze page in. This means that users with no idea about internet marketing will not be able to create an effective page, and would be unable to get many, if any, sales.
Profit Funnel System makes use of a redirection process, where users who do not subscribe are sent to a new squeeze page through a popup. This is a very common trick, and mainly serves to annoy readers.
If I decided not to purchase a product, an additional sales pitch wouldn’t really be likely to change my mind, and it would ensure that I never went back to the site. It would also make me very unlikely to suggest that my friends visit the site.
This approach means that the site does not develop a good reputation, which means it must sell products based on hype, not legitimate content. In general, most of the approaches that Profit Funnel System provides don’t actually result in more sales; they simply annoy any potential subscribers and reduce customer loyalty.
Many people look at reviews to get an idea of whether a product is worth spending money on. If you are going to do this for any internet marketing product, you have to be very careful.
The thing is, the majority of reviews for Profit Funnel System and for just about every internet marketing system, are affiliates. This means that they get money for signing you up and will try just about any tactic to get you to. Because of this, most reviews are heavily biased and do not realistically evaluate the product.
You can probably tell this for yourself by the fact that they tend to use the same language and the same images.
Who Is This Product For?
Profit Funnel System is designed to be ‘caveman simple’ and it is that easy to use it. However, to actually be effective with the product and to make profit, users really do need some concept of internet marketing and ideally some experience. This is not a ‘get quick rich’ product, and strongly favors quantity over quality.
At the end of the day, Profit Funnel System can provide some traffic for users who already know what they are doing making money online, but many of these users may have already developed their own effective approaches.
For people just beginning making money online, products like Profit Funnel System are not the way to go. Even if the product itself works fine, making money through the internet is never straightforward and new users find that they run into many unexpected questions, such as about hosting or keywords.
The absolute best approach is to look for a community-based type of training that provides both information and support, as this means you don’t have to buy multiple different products to try and get somewhere.
