Just by accident, I met a few guys with a bit of a sketch history recently. The internet is an open place, and you meet all types of people. What was most surprising to me was that they weren't dressed up in a black shirt with a pair of panty hose over their head and a big bag with a money sign on it (joke).
But speaking seriously now, having a criminal record can seriously harm your chances of getting legitimate, honest, stable work. The good thing about the internet is that it can allow you to start fresh, and find honest jobs, many times without your employer needing to check into your history.
Sometimes, we just need a second chance to do things right, and working on the internet is YOUR second chance.
There are a few options when it comes to jobs online. Which ones sound good to you will depend on what you're good at. You do not have to be a computer genius to do these things, but many times you'll have to put in some extra time to learn some new skills. You may get paid low wages in the beginning, but unlink jobs in the real world, internet jobs usually increase payments as you gain the relevant skills and produce better work.
Data Entry: This is pretty boring stuff, and usually outsourced overseas to the Philippines, India, or other countries. Specific tasks vary, but it's like the grunt work of the internet. Copy/paste text from one place to another. Record some numbers. Create short descriptions of pictures.
There is an absolute huge variety of things to do so I won't go over them all. You'll have to browse through the jobs, bid low, and be honest just getting started. It'll probably be boring as well, but money coming in isn't much to complain about, especially when you are working from a desk in your own home.
This may be a completely new career direction for you, but it's nothing to shy away from. Just as easily as you can learn how to sweep a floor, you can learn how to fill in data into a spreadsheet. It's all about how bad you want it.

Writing Articles: You'll need to be able to create a readable article for this task, but it pays much better than the above option. Again, start by bidding low, and working your way up. You'll probably spend a lot of your time researching the topics too, so don't take on too much work at once. Start slow. Tough topics that require a native English speaker can pay VERY well, so there's that to look forward to.
Highlight the fact that you are a native English speaker and looking to get a decent portfolio of work behind you before you start charging more. Lots of employers will love this – cheap native-language articles.

Honesty and trustworthiness goes a long way in this industry. Just tell potential employers (as you are making your bid) that you don't have much experience writing, but need the work to build a portfolio and gain experience, so you are willing to work harder, and for less money than others. Experience clients will jump at the opportunity, and you'll be able to land your first online job.
I haven't DONE this work before, but I've hired people to do it, and I've never once looked into someone's personal history. All I do is look to see if other people have reviewed their work, and what the responses were to the products produced.Work is rated based on quality only (and the personality of the writer).
Make Money Doing What I DO
I do something called affiliate marketing, and I'd like to introduce it to you today. You can make much more money than the above two examples, and it's equally anonymous.
I write information on a blog that centers around a specific topic. You can create a blog about fitness, sports, movies, or any other “niche market”. As I write, I sometimes talk about products related to the topic of the blog.
If I have a blog about sports, I might write an article about training shoes or protein powder. Previous to writing the article I found a website with an “affiliate program”. That basically allows you to become a freelance advertiser for their products. You can promote them in almost any way you want, as long as it's not spam or hurting their brand image.
You can make a lot of money this way because there are no limitations on how many people can be on your site at one time. Most of my work is just getting people on my sites.
These affiliate programs are free to sign up for, and generally very loosely regulated. This is a HUGE opportunity for anyone with a criminal record. By doing what I do, you become your own boss. You work for yourself as an online marketer (freelance advertiser). No one cares who you are, what you do, or what you did. They only care to see what results your product.
If you can make sales from your site, then they are happy.
Can I Do Affiliate Marketing With A Criminal Record?
Absolutely. Everything is done freelance, and it's all over the internet. I've never had anyone look into my background or even ask for my real name.
The anonymity of this whole industry is partly why there are so many online scams, but it works to your advantage here. You can do great work and make a excellent money doing this if you commit the time. Plus, you don't have to deal with getting turned down for yet another job.
How You Can Do It Too
It takes a few weeks, or maybe a few months to learn how to do this. I learned it in about 6 months and was making money at the end of that time. Most people take around the same time, and might make a few hundred bucks per month after their initial training.
It usually takes a year or more to produce substantial income, but once the learning phase is over, you can earn some serious income, without the stress and hassle of a typical 9-5.
I started learning in an online business training center. You can join for free here and take the first part of their training for free. The test account is great for seeing what the place is like before you pay for anything. Advanced training that will grow your site and show you specifically how to make money from it require an upgrade to premium training, but cross that bridge when you come to it.
For now, just consider the possibilities that have just opened up to you. No more crappy, under the table manual labor jobs. No fruitless job searches, and getting by month to month on paychecks that may or may not come in next month. Leave the past in the past, and move forward with new ideas and new possibilities. This is an opportunity to build yourself a new future.
