There are so many advantages of doing business online rather that in real life. For me, as an entrepreneur online business just made sense.
One, when I started out, I was very skeptical. I didn't want to risk any money (or at least as little as possible).
Two, I was a little embarrassed. Most people would be proud to do something as cool as becoming your own boss, but I was afraid of failure.
The people I did tell said that I could never make money online. Family and friends smirked when I told them that I was officially going into business for myself. What if I failed at it? I would have to listen to them tell me, “I told you so”.
Starting a new business online can be 100% free, and 100% risk-free. There are a wealth of free tools available on the internet, plus the anonymity of the internet provides us with way to try, fail, and try again, without the worry of failing in front of the whole world.
Which is why online business is perfect for me. It's also why online business is perfect for you.
One of the most basic ways to begin doing business through the internet is to freelance. Sure, it doesn't sound like the next Apple or Ford, but technically, it's a business.
It's called a sole proprietorship.
You file taxes as being self employed. By freelancing, you're contracting your services, so very much like a person who owns their own construction company.
Just because your tools are a keyboard, a mouse, and software doesn't make it any less of a business. You make the plans. You decide who to work for and how much to charge. You can subcontract and outsource parts of your project, or do everything yourself.
You are your own boss.
Writing, website building, tech support, graphic and video design, customer service – there are tons of things to try, depending on your skill set.
Don't have any skills?
You can learn anything for free! YouTube and Google are free.
Another way to start an online business is through social media channels.
I know, it doesn't sound like a real business model, but hey, if it makes money, it's a business.
The difference between some 14 year old kid uploading iPhone videos of him on a skateboard and a real money making strategy is PLAN and ACTION.
People make thousand of dollars on YouTube. Facebook & Google Business Pages are completely free, and can be used to direct people to other free websites you've made. There are plenty of monetized writing communities like Squidoo, Hubpages, and Xomba.
Become popular on any social media site like YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter, and advertisers will be knocking at your door looking for ways to get their money into your hands.
How do you become popular on the internet?
Basically, be yourself.
Whatever you are passionate about, there are other people that are passionate about it as well. You are not the only one! If your videos are ‘real' enough, give some insight into who you are, and you are able to provide viewers with quality content that they find interesting or useful, you've got a winning combination.
Are you a prolific writer and can attract those prolific readers? Some people make a living simply writing content for the internet.
Spend a bit of time branding yourself and interacting with people in your niche, and hey, you've got a monetized channel, page, site, and brand. After that, you can start investing into your business to ‘take it to the next level'. In no time at all, YOU are an internet authority in your area of interest.
It's all viral from there.
Build a Profitable Website
One of the most powerful ways to make money online is to build websites.
No, I don't mean building sites for other people. I mean building a website that is to be YOUR NEW BUSINESS.
It's not that hard, and there a boat-load of money to be made doing this.
It's called niche marketing.
Somewhat related to the examples above, in it's simplest form, it's writing about your passions. You put the things you write on a website domain that you own. Once that is done, there are various ways to make money from this point, but the most profitable one is to find ‘affiliate programs' for products related to your niche.
For example, if I love bass fishing, I can make a website about bass fishing. When I talk about what lure I used over the weekend, or what kind of motor I use on my boat, I provide a link to a website that sells this. If I am an ‘affiliate' of this website, I make a percentage of the price tag.
It's that simple.
Plus, it's super easy because who doesn't like talking about their hobbies and interests?
Of course, learning how to do this takes time, persistence, and most importantly, belief in yourself.
But the basic concept of niche marketing is very simple, and easy to implement.
Did you know for 1 year of ownership of a premium .com domain you pay only around $10?
That's $10 startup costs for your new business. Amazing, right?
If you remember, I said that my first business cost me $50.
This is what I do now. I own several online businesses and work from home. I love it, and wouldn't want to do anything else.
You can do it too, and I want to help you do it.
