Product Name: Speed Blogging
Product Owner: Chris Record
Advertised Price: $1 Trial, $30/month
What Is It?
This is a Chrome extension that allows you to curate content from around the web and automatically post it to your blog. It integrates with WordPress, Kalatu, and Smart Member.
Before You Buy
The creator of Speed Blogging is Chris Record, which you may or may not have heard of before. He’s involved in the network marketing and coaching community, and has quite a following online.
I was immediacy put off however, by his association with Empower Network. He now seems to be running the struggling Kalatu blogging platform, which was supposedly “viral” but has yet to gain any real traction against WordPress or the million other website builders out there. (actually, Kalatu is just a modified version of WordPress).
The last thing I want to discuss is that it’s my personal belief you should never go into a business venture looking for the “fastest” way to create something. You should look for the “best”, since quality is what lasts, not volume or speed.
What I Liked
Viral Sites Make Money
As much as I don’t like the idea of “speed blogging”, I do realize that viral content is a great way to make money online. If you can get posts to take off on a regular basis, the ad money is sweet. People are making $10,000’s of dollars per month, week, or even day with gigantic media blogs.
Getting content to go viral is not easy, for sure. But is anything in the world of business easy?
If you really do want to create a viral-post style website and get involved in internet trends, then go for it. There’s no reason you can’t do it.
Creating Viral List Posts
Lists are one of the most powerful types of online content out there. They are easily digestible, fun to share, and a great way to waste time at work. They are addicting!
Even I, someone that is well aware of clickbait, find it hard to resist a catchy title like, “10 Things Your Girlfriend Wants But Won’t Tell You.”
From watching the demonstration video on the sales page for Speed Blogging, creating these lists seems pretty easy. Everything is drag and drop within the back end, and you can add things to your blog via the Chrome extension.
HOWEVER, you should be aware that Chris gives some terrible advice in the video that could get you in trouble! No, you cannot just grab any image you want from the internet and put it on your blog, EVEN IF YOU LINK TO THE SOURCE. Posting images on your site that you do not have permission to use could get you into serious copyright infringement trouble.
Lots of people do not follow the rules, and lots of people make money doing exactly what Chris is suggesting. However, it’s still against the law, and still leaves you liable for lawsuits (in the rare case that it would happen).
Facebook Featured Images
This is another cool feature that I liked. Creating high quality images on the fly can be a pain in the butt. Sure, if you just grab an image online or use a stock photo, Facebook will resize it.
But if you want to include text, a logo, or some kind of extra thing on the image to make it stand out, that can take 10-15 minutes depending on what you’re trying to do.
Having a quick image creator to integrate with Speed Blogging is a nice feature.
However, keep in mind that copyright rules still follow here. You cannot just rebrand any image you want or use it for promotion. Editing the photo may fall under some kind of artistic license since you’re “reworking” the image, but it’s a grey area. Unless you are 100% sure that what you are doing is artistic instead of commercial, this could cause you trouble down the road.
What I Didn’t Like
You Need A Serious Social Media Following
The one thing that’s often left out of the equation of making money with viral content is that you need VIEWS in order to make money from it. Curated content from other sources will simply not rank in Google, so you will be 100% reliant on social traffic or PPC traffic.
Traffic arbitrage, as explained in Niche Tycoon (a great product) is not easy to do. Yes, it can be highly profitable, but as I’m finding out now, it’s very easy to spend more money than you make. In October just this year I spend $250 and made about $20. So yeah, I’m still learning. And I’d be willing to bet that most of you reading this review can’t afford a few hundred dollars per month to test your Facebook advertising skills.
Ok, so you can definitely just do social sharing instead, which is free, but how many Facebook followers do you have? None? Well, you’d better go get some. The free kind you need to get organically, by posting interesting, engaging content. That takes time.
The fast way to get followers on Twitter or Facebook is by paying for them. Even at pennies per follower, you can easily spend several hundred dollars for just a few thousand followers.
A few thousand followers may get you a few likes or shares, but not the viral kind that’s going to get fantastic earnings.
Anyway, long story short – traffic is hard. Having a “viral content blog” will not magically make you money. You need a traffic strategy in place.
Some Features I Don’t Like
I’ll just combine these two features mentioned in the sales page because I think they are not worth having in the product.
1) SEO Scoring System
I can use a Yoast plugin for free, and I’d trust Yoast’s authority much more than this guy. But I don’t even use Yoast, because I don’t believe in things like keyword density or a need to bold your keyword.
My basic SEO strategy is outlined here.
2) Longtail SEO Keyword Tool
If you need a Keyword tool, you can use Google’s Keyword planner for free. However, I’d much rather be using Jaaxy. It’s not free though, so if you want something free, you can just get title ideas from Google Instant, which is free.
I guess I can’t really complain that it’s included – I just don’t think it will do a very good job compared to established companies like Jaaxy or Longtail Pro.
Association With Kalatu and Empower Network
Both of these companies have not been doing well. Empower Network was part of a huge controversy back in 2012 or 2013. People lost millions of dollars and there are thousands of complaints online.
They relaunched, and relaunched again, and now seem to have settled in the mud somewhere. I watched a few YouTube videos from recent EN people, and was surprised to see that their brand went from people showing off their sports cars and $100,000 checks to eating a meal cooked by someone’s mom at their mastermind.
I mentioned Kalatu above, with a link to my full review so suffice to say this is NOT the blogging platform I’d choose to run my business when I can run a WordPress blog with more features and for cheaper.
Note: At a recent empower network event a speaker slapped around $1 bills to demostrate how much money you can make online. Haha! That's a serious downgrade from the image below!
Yes, it's a legit piece of software that works. No, I would not invest my money in it.
My personal advice is to not trust your business to a new company that hasn’t proven itself. If you really want to create a viral website, take some time to actually research other viral sites and see what they do. Don’t look for the “fast and easy” way to mimic them because your success will not be fast and easy, no matter what strategy you use.
That being said, I haven’t used Speed Blogging, so can’t say that it doesn’t work. I just know that I would not be building a business using them as my backbone.
I’m currently working on my own “viral” style website, but so far, it hasn’t made much money. In fact, I’ve spent more money than I made!
I do have much more experience creating profitable businesses ranking sites in Google and doing affiliate promotions. I started my first business in 2010, and was able to quit my job by 2012 from earnings from my websites.
I learned how to make my first site, with no experience, at Wealthy Affiliate. I’m still a member to this day, and spend a lot of time helping newbies get started and create their own websites that earn money.
