Product Name: My Fun Life
Product Owner: My Fun Life Inc
Price: $25 one-time fee + $25/month
What is it?
A company promoting travel and accommodation offering the potential for people to earn money by promoting the company.
My Fun Life has its members promoting accommodation and travel packages through duplicate websites and little training, while pushing members to recruit others. Overall, it is an ineffective approach to making money and most people will find themselves losing money instead due to the monthly fee.
Before You Buy
If you do get involved in My Fun Life make sure you understand the commission approach fully, as it would be easy to do all the work and not get paid because of some minor issue or something you missed.
Additionally, be aware of the monthly fee for being a customer. You have to be paying this to be able to earn commissions and it can make the entire process cost more than you end up earning.
What I Liked
I do like the way that the site looks in general and the company has put the time into making the site look visually appealing. However, that’s largely a moot point when the sites from all members look identical.
What I Didn’t Like
I’ll be honest, the name My Fun Life doesn’t exactly inspire me with confidence about the company and it’s also not a name that is frequently mentioned which is another concerning thing.
With this type of business model, your ability to make money from the company depends on your ability to sell what it is promoting (in this case travel). This is much easier when the company already has an established reputation. The fact that most people haven’t heard about My Fun Life will make it considerably more difficult to make money.
But, let’s step back for a moment. What is My Fun Life and how do you make money from it?
My Fun Life is a travel site that offers the ability to book accommodation, trips and condos. As an income opportunity, people can promote the site and its products, earning commissions in the process.
However, the process isn’t as simple or as easy as it might seem.
A major problem that I have with this site and this company is that you have to jump through hoops to do anything. For example, one of the products that the company offers is FunCONDOS.
This sounds great, but to find out anything about the condos at all, including pricing, you have to sign up as a customer, something that costs $25.
Personally, I would want to know what I am actually promoting before I put any money down in a company – so this is an immediate red flag.
Additionally, anyone that you are trying to sell to has to jump through the same hoops to find out information. Most people won’t be willing to do that, which makes getting sales very difficult.
Another aspect of the site is something it calls Cha-CHING Booking. This process means that if you book through My Fun Life, you earn some of that money back.
Of course, this isn’t as good as it seems, because you have no way of knowing whether you are paying more or less for accommodation through the site, and the site gives no indication of how it selects the accommodation that it presents.
Additionally, the site frequently comes up with broken images and Sold Out notices, even if you are looking at booking far in advance – suggesting that the information isn’t accurate whatsoever. None of this is very reassuring for a visitor to the site.
Travel is one of those things that people put a lot of time and effort into. After all, it can be pretty significant if you turn up in another country to find that the accommodation you paid money for was never actually booked.
This means that people are often pretty picky about the sites (or physical stores) that they make their travel arrangements through. If you had anything on your site that suggested that it wasn’t legitimate – like broken images or inaccurate data – people would probably go somewhere else.
This is a major problem with the My Fun Life system.
As a marketer for what the site has to offer, your job is to make sales. Yet, the site itself undermines this and trying to sell accommodation and travel packages isn’t exactly an easy niche to make sales in to start off with.
Additionally, people are highly unlikely to become a paid member of the site (which is what you want them to do) unless they are convinced that it is a good decision. Honestly, there is nothing on the site that is likely to convince anyone of that.
I also want to point out something interesting. The signup form to be part of the business or to become a customer involves inputting personal information, including your Social Security Number and your physical address.
You can actually sign up without ever entering the SSN information, but this isn’t obvious from the form.
There are very few cases where a website actually needs to ask for your SSN, and this is not one of them. It is deeply concerning that the site asks for the information and it will also be enough to turn many people away. After all, you should be very careful about where you enter your SSN online.
And all of that is just the beginning.
The design of My Fun Life is basically that you make sales and get people to subscribe to the website online.
Selling anything successfully online generally means making a website, getting it ranked, getting traffic to it and getting conversions. These are approaches that take time and effort, and you have to have some idea of what you are doing to start off with.
However, My Fun Life doesn’t teach you anything of what is involved in making a successful website. Instead, it simply presents members with a website that is identical to what every other member is offered and has the same limitations and issues as the original.
The fact that the website is identical makes it pretty much useless.
Search engines do not like duplicate content and will not rank pages well (or at all in some cases) if they have duplicate content. Additionally, if you have a webpage from My Fun Life, you are competing against a large number of identical pages.
With nothing to distinguish you from your competitors, how can you ever expect to rank or actually make money. You can see this just by searching the start of the tagline in the image above:
That’s 50,800 different pages all with the same phrase. Most of those pages will be either the identical website or variations, like this:
That is a lot of other people and sites to compete against, and you are unlikely to be successful.
Additionally, My Fun Life doesn’t even provide training for how to get a website ranked or how to be successful online in general. That’s a major oversight and it means that the only way to even get signups would be to send the link to friends and family – which really isn’t a good business approach.
This brings me to the last major thing about My Fun Life, the compensation plan.
My Fun Life is touted as an income opportunity and you even get automatically signed up for the opportunity regardless of what account version you choose at the start. Yet, like everything else about the site, the income opportunity is needlessly complicated and not all that effective.
To start off with, making money from My Fun Life involves paying the fee to be a customer ($25/month) as well as a $25 enrollment fee. Additionally, you have to have a BV of $25 each month to earn commissions.
The site isn’t entirely clear about what BV is, even though the commission plan uses the term frequently. However, the general idea is that you have to be making some form of sale each month to be able to earn commissions.
This can include getting people to pay the $25/month to be a customer or getting them to actually book things (both of which can be challenging to achieve).
In general, members earn money through My Fun Life by getting people to buy and recruiting others. As is common in this business type, the majority of commissions come from recruiting others. You actually have to sponsor at least three other people to earn the most in terms of percentage payout.
The compensation plan is complicated, and members earn money from their own commissions as well as from the commissions of the people that they recruit (a MLM approach). In theory this can add up to a substantial amount of money per month.
But… and this is a big but… few people will ever see much income from this type of company.
The design of the compensation plan means that the people who make money are those who recruit a large number of others, who are then successful at recruiting and so forth. In practice, that just doesn’t happen.
There are so many companies like this out there already and this makes recruitment difficult. There are few people out there that would be willing to spend the money and time to see whether they could make money on the company. Realistically, anyone who did have the connections and skills to make money through My Fun Life should be trying to make money online for themselves, without working for this type of company.
That really is the point here. My Fun Life’s Independent Business Owners aren’t really business owners at all. Instead, they are working for My Fun Life and are subject to all of its complex compensation approaches and rules.
The thing is… why?
You can earn money online in a much less complex way without having to subject yourself to the whims of any company or to any confusing compensation plans. In fact, a much more effective way to earn money online is to sell things that people actually want to buy.
This is where an approach called affiliate marketing comes in. Like with My Fun Life, affiliate marketing involves promoting products from a company for a commission.
However, one of the key differences is that you choose both the companies and the products, which gives you a lot more control. Additionally, this means that you can choose areas to focus on where the competition is comparatively low.
All of this means that you have much more chance at being successful at affiliate marketing than you do by working for My Fun Life or any similar company.
The income opportunity at My Fun Life isn’t unique and isn’t particularly effective. Not only do you end up with a website that won’t rank, but what you are trying to promote isn’t really that appealing.
I recommend that anyone wanting to make money online seriously considers affiliate marketing. It does take more time and training to set up than My Fun Life, but the potential for profit is much higher. There is also some really good training out there that can guide you regardless of you much skill or experience you have.
