Global Domains International Review
Company Name: Global Domains International
Costs: $10/month or $40/month, $3/lead
What Is It
This is an MLM company with domains as their product.
I have made over 50 websites with different domain extensions over the years and would not touch a .ws domain. No real webmaster would. Your potential customer base there is the uninformed person.
There is a pretty good emphasis on recruiting, which makes Global Domains International very pyramid-y, but if they would focus on just hiring affiliates to sell their .ws extension I would give them a better rating as being just a normal affiliate program.
There are many domain extensions outside the typical .com, .org, or .net. In fact, every country has their own extension.
- .ca = Canada
- .co.uk = UK
- .mx = Mexico
- .ws = Western Samoa
The funny thing is that .tv is now used for podcasts and vlogs, but it’s actually from the country Tulavu. Anyway, there’s lots more fun facts about domain extensions here.
The main point I want to make is that if you are building a website, .coms have the best chance of ranking, period. Unless you are targeting specific country locations, like local UK businesses or websites specific to Canada, there’s NO REASON to use another extension.
Some people like the looks of certain extensions, but it’s a poor choice if you plan on building a website that ranks in Google. There are exceptions, but they are just that – exceptions.
The other thing is that you are going to be pay $10/month for this domain, which you could be paying $10/year from a normal registrar, including phone support and other perks (namely not being affiliated with MLM)
- There are other costs/products associated with Global Domains International including
- Buying leads ($3 each)
- Income for Life and the Address for Life package (cost unknown)
- Premium membership ($40/month)
The details and benefits of these were not made clear, and seem to be associated more with the MLM side of the business than the actual product they are selling.
$1/month isn’t that bad
The main gripe you’ll hear from other reviewers is that you only make $1/sale. Actually, that’s not that bad, especially if it’s residual. I participate in an affiliate program that pays me $1-$3 per sale, and it’s a monthly subscription service.
Although in the beginning I made peanuts, 3 years later, I’m now banking almost $2k per month just because people stay on so long and those $1 commissions add up. If Global Domains International had a good product, I might recommend them a bit more.
MLM “Better Life” Spin
Watch out for typical MLM tactics that lure you in with a promise of a better life without telling you how much work it’s going to take. They make it sound so easy when they tell you that all you have to do is send an email to all your contacts.
I’ll just tell you straight up, right now. Most of your friends and family will NOT be interested in owning a domain, let alone participating in a “make money” proposition. That’s going to leave you to NEED to buy leads.
Without proper training on how to market you product online, this is how the money pit starts for most MLM newbies.
Worst of all, they seem to ignore the fact that their business plan looks exactly like a pyramid scheme. I mean, come on! If you are going to pretend to be a legitimate company, start by removing all pyramid charts from your introduction video.
I actually have three .info websites that rank well in search engines and make money, so anything is possible! This has nothing to do with GDI really, but just wanted to let you know 🙂
MLM VS Affiliate Marketing
To be honest, selling domains is boring, don’t you think? Wouldn’t you rather sell something interesting online?
This is why I tell people to start a blog and start doing affiliate marketing. You are not tied to one MLM company, and you are not tied to one line of products. You can choose any topic for your websites, and pick the products you want to promote.
No selling to friend and family, no recruiting or cold-calling. You can sell stuff online without bothering your Facebook friends!
For the pro marketers reading this, have you ever ranked any domains with unusual extensions?
Whatever type of product you decide to promote, it's VITAL that you generate leads to grow your business.
But let's face it, "parties" are boring, and no one likes the annoying Facebook friend who's always promoting a biz-op.
That's why I use this lead generation system. Learn how to generate leads outside of your circle of friends and family and discover what it means to truly own your own business, rather than just be a cheerleader for one network marketing company.
