Supadupa has some nice features that are great for online stores. Unfortunately they lack the basic features needed to market those stores. Without those features you’re almost certain to fail. Because of that, I have to recommend you stay away from Supadupa.
What I Liked
Many of the features I liked about Supadupa are important for new users looking to simplify things with a new store. This is also an area where other ecommerce builders seem to fail.
Although the tour was not guided by a customer service person or a tech representative, I still enjoyed what Supadupa offered. The tour was a self-guided tour that takes about 10 minutes but it explains everything you need to know in detail.
Giving new users a tour of the builder is crucial for that users success. Typically, I like to see a builder that offers a guided tour but Supadupa’s tour was great and far exceeded what most of their competitors offer.
Immediately after you finish the tour you’re taken to a check list. This checklist lays out all the important steps that new users need to take next in order to set up their stores properly. Again, this is an important thing for new users who might be feeling overwhelmed with all the things they need to do.
Supadupa does a great job of keeping things simple and easy to find. From within the dashboard you have quick access to the important things like adding products, tracking orders, shipping and even some of the more advanced features.
The user navigation is always displayed prominently in the top right corner, no matter where you are in the site.
Adding products to your Supadupa store is easy. Just navigate to the “Products” tab in the menu and you're ready to go. Once you're there it becomes obvious that Supadupa places a lot of importance on this process.
Adding products with multiple variations like sizes, colors and prices is a difficult process with most store building software. Supadupa makes it easy on you by keeping all product details on one page.
Things like the variations can be added from one page, as well as shipping details, discount information, and even optimizing products to show up in search results properly (a feature most builders lack).
What I Didn't Like
Unlike their commitment to products, Supadupa lacks the basic features to add content like blog posts, landing pages or visual content outside of the product page. This is an unfortunate downside that could result in a major lack of sales for users.
Supadupa gives you the ability to add static pages, like a contact page, to your store. Unfortunately the way you have to go about it is less than ideal. Buried under “Settings” is a tab that says “info pages”.
If you click that you’re taken to a page where you can add a title and some text.
It feels like this area was added as an afterthought because it’s hidden and the editor doesn’t include the most basic features you’d need.
The ability to bold, italicize, add links or images is completely missing. Just to give you an idea, here’s what a basic text editor looks like, notice all the options.
These are basic features that are included in every text editor, without them the pages you add will be boring and pointless.
Sticking to their lack of commitment for content, Supadupa does not allow you to blog using their software. Again, this is another basic feature that’s necessary to maintain a successful store online.
If you want a blog for your store you have to use a platform like tumblr. And although tumblr is nice, driving people away from your store is going to eliminate any chance you had of making a sale.
What Makes Supadupa Different?
Their commitment to products is what makes Supadupa different from the rest. Other builders tend to try and focus on an ‘all-in-one solution’. Instead they spread themselves too thin and end up being weak in every area. And although Supadupa’s downsides are major, at least they can say they chose to focus on something.
Who Is Supadupa For?
If you’re someone who creates a lot of products on your own and you have some basic marketing skills Supadupa might be a perfect solution for you. If you understand how to run paid advertising campaigns on search engines and social media platforms Supadupa’s downfalls won’t bother you as much.
Supadupa Versus Affiliate Marketing
To compare Supadupa to affiliate marketing you have to be clear about your needs. Ask yourself these questions to figure out which is best for you:
- Do I have products to sell?
- Do I want to create, or continue to create, physical products?
- Do I have a way to store, ship and insure physical products?
- Do I know enough about business and online marketing to be an independent seller?
If you answered “yes” to those questions, Supadupa might be a good solution for you.
If you answered no to any of those questions affiliate marketing is probably a better fit for you. These questions will help you decide:
- Do you have a hobby or a passion?
- Do you want to make money without storing the items you sell?
- Have you ever seen, or used a product and wished you could’ve invented it?
- Does the idea of starting a business online make you hate your boss?
If you said yes to those questions then you and I are a lot alike.
I became an affiliate marketer because I was intrigued with the internet but I didn’t know anything about it. I wanted to sell things online but I didn’t want all the hassles of dealing with products. In my opinion, affiliate marketing is perfect for newbies who don't know what to sell or how to start a business!
