What is it?
List Authority is an ebook and PLR training product that you can edit, rebrand and resell. With PLR (Private Label Rights), you are provided with a license to certain content that you can legally modify and publish as your own.
PLR in other words is prepackaged content that has already been created for you. The PLR product itself, List Authority, is an ebook on how to build an email list of 1000 subscribers and profit from it in one month.
List Authority includes a list building checklist and resource sheet. About half of the content List Authority comes with is for list building, and the other half for reselling List Authority with the PLR license. That cuts the value of List Authority in half since the PLR related content is useless and has no real substance.
Before You Buy
There are lots of ways to build a very profitable email list without using PLR content. Autoresponder Madness is an email marketing course that seems to set the standard for all the others. I reviewed it and found it to be quite helpful.
You can read my review of Autoresponder Madness here. It's more about how to write effect emails that will convert subscribers already on your list to paying customers.
What you learn from it will far exceed even the best parts of List Authority, but it's expensive. Sometimes, you just have to pay good money for good information. Sometimes, if you cut corners and look for the cheapest thing possible, it just delays your path to success.
If you are not familiar with how to build an email list, you need to start there! My #1 recommendation for learning how to build an email list is called Income Blueprint X (links to full review).
What I Liked
The first half of List Authority content is very informative and resourceful. It’s explained well so it wouldn’t be hard for a beginner to follow along. Since half of this product is PLR content that’s half of the product that we don’t want to use.
Shows You How To Build A List
List Authority actually does show you step by step how you can setup your list and start building it. There isn’t much left out, everything you need to know or research is in the ebook.
You could study the first half (the training) and the second half (the PLR) and get a pretty good understanding of what it takes to build an email list.
It also tells you the different types of ways you can make money with your list, how you should organize your autoresponder emails to maximize your conversion rates, and some of the other things that you’ll need to know.
The List Authority checklist is a great, actionable list of steps you can take to setup, grow, and monetize your list. From signing up for an autoresponder to creating a squeeze page, the checklist is a simple reminder of what you need to do next.
In all honestly, you could probably buy this product just to learn how to build a list if you don't already know how to do it.
What I Didn’t Like
Unfortunately, I had to give this product a bad rating because it promotes the use of PLR content so heavily. Had this been a simple training, I think things would’ve gone a little better. However, with such an important fundamental flaw it could be quite dangerous to beginners.
PLR content has a number of cons. The biggest problem though, is that PLR content is duplicate content, which negatively affects your website’s ranking in the search engines. If you copy this content onto your site, search engines will not see it as original or unique because of all the others who have bought it and copied it onto their website.
Search engines base the rank they give each website on a variety of factors; one of the most important is original content. When search engines see websites with similar (or in this case, identical) content they will remove those websites from the search results. Of course, a website that gets no search engines traffic is basically useless.
So you see, PLR content by it’s very nature is damaging to your website and to your business. Paying $15 to get your site blacklisted on search engines doesn’t sound too smart to me.
Additionally, PLR content comes with some customer support issues.
What happens when a customer on your list contacts you for specific advice about building their list? If you’re not truly knowledgeable enough about list building to answer their question appropriately you’re going to end up with a very unhappy customer. Businesses with bad customer service don’t tend too last long.
Lack of Support
One of the major flaws with List Authority is the lack of support. It’s an ebook made up mostly of PLR content. Ebooks and PLR products are notorious for their lack of support, but List Authority combines them both, which means there is absolutely no way you will find any one to help when you get stuck.
It’s unfortunate, but it’s a common side-effect with these types of products.
