What is it?
Imgur Exposed is a 30-page ebook that promises to show you how to earn money by simply posting images on Imgur. If you're not familiar, Imgur.com is a photo-sharing website where users share, comment and store images. The site is mostly used for creating and sharing funny pictures, like memes.
There is absolutely no value in this product at all. It's a 30-page ebook that reads more like one man's evangelical rant. The only information that has any real value is the part where show you how to sign up for an account. Of course, I did this on my own in about 60 seconds. So I'm not sure we can classify that as “valuable information”. Put simply, this product is a complete waste of time. Save your money.
Before You Buy
Imgur Exposed is very similar to another one of James Renouf's product's that I reviewed recently. It's called Traffic Tree Monetizer and it got a terrible review. In fact it got one of the worst reviews I've ever given a product just because it was an utterly ridiculous idea and scammy delivery.
Like I said, that product was very similar: another PDF where James talks about how much he likes a certain website.
Believe it or not, James actually had the nerve to try an upsell with this product. For an additional $19 you can get access to James's personal collection “share-ready” images to share on Imgur.
He says he gives you over 1 gigabyte of royalty-free images. Charging folks money for images you can download for free, on your own from places like Flickr Creative Commons is a great example of the crap this guy likes to pull.
What I Liked
Up to Date/Current
Despite everything else, this guide is very up to date. I'm writing this on March 3rd 2015 and the ebook these guys have written is mentioning things like Spock's Death and Color Changing Dress.
Sure those are just pop-culture references but it shows the ebook and its creator's are up to date with some of the current trends online. With any strategy involving social media, having a working knowledge of trendy things like that can make a big difference.
Oh, by the way, what color do you see?
A month down the road, you probably won't understand this reference, but using this image in an Imgur photo could get you some good views on Imgur.
I actually attended a webinar that Renouf put out, and it wasn't too bad. I'm surprised he took the time to do it, because the concept of the product was so simple, but the Q&A portion and some of the extra details were good. Still, it was clear from listening that this is not a source of traffic I would focus on, and there was no evidence that people were growing traffic significantly or income at all from using this method.
Possible Source of Traffic
As much as I personally think going down this avenue is a waste of time for most marketers, I do think that it could be a potentially good one for some. I'm not saying that Imgur itself is bad, or that you shouldn't try it. If you have a comedy site, or a cute dog site, it could work…maybe. However, I think that you'd have a lot more luck with Pinterest or other image sharing sites too.
If you are planning on using Imgur to collect emails with a squeeze page however, I would consider that wishful thinking.
What I Didn't Like
This is one of those products that is difficult to review because it has no substance. At least with most other products there's some information inside that's worth discussing. But with this one it's very difficult. It would be like me reviewing someone's statement about a good taco…there's only so much you can say.
But I'll give it a try anyway.
Low Quality Material
This is not the first time James has created a short ebook, slapped up for sale and called it a “Money Making Product”. It disgusts me. This guy creates a new product every week, and launches it as “something exposed” or “something apocalypse”. I get the impression that this guy outsources most of his material, or sits down on the weekend and writes an ebook every week.
This one just happens to be James droning on about how great Imgur is. Okay that's fine, you can do that. I'll even agree that it's a great site. But talking about how great it is, then charging me for it is ridiculous.
Terrible Marketing Advice
There isn't much advice in this ebook as it is. But what advice is given is really bad.
Advice like you see below is just wrong.
That's not how you build a business online and it's not how you monetize your social network. You need to find people who are engaged and passionate about the same things you are. Just because an image can get views and comments doesn't mean it will be profitable for you.
In fact it can have terrible affects on your reputation. Comments like you see in the image above can ruin your name, and therefore your business.
We already knew that bro
There's one thing that James says is the key for success on Imgur. It's a very simple tip that just about everyone knows about. And if you don't know about it, it would not have taken you long to figure it out on your own.
The big “Genius Idea” that James offers in this ebook is to put your logo in the bottom right corner of the images that you share on imgur.
That's his golden nugget. He calls it a “link” in the ebook, but it's not a link. It's not clickable, so it's just a logo or website name … a kind of water mark. Sure it's good practice but it's not the groundbreaking idea he makes it out to be. It's common knowledge.
Not Really A Good Source of Traffic
The premise behind Imgur Exposed is that you can drive traffic to your site using this method. However, since you don't have a link to your site, you are depending on people seeing the image, finding your watermark, going to your website, and THEN opting in.
Renouf even admitted in the webinar that he tried to put links in the image description area and people immediately called him out as a marketer and downvoted the image.
Trying to be marketer is a place where people are supposed to be created is a dangerous position.
Making a full time income from reading one PDF just isn’t going to happen, especially if there isn’t a good enough support network.
