This page is part of a three-page series focusing on how to get started in the field of freelancing and the way that freelancing can be an effective way to earn money online more quickly than many other methods. I will be largely drawing from my own personal experiences, as I am a passionate writer and make my entire income through freelance writing.

Part 1: How to Make Money Online Within a Month
As a general rule, making money online is not a fast process, and you certainly can’t get anywhere without putting time and effort into the process. Even companies that promote ‘fast and easy money’ online tend to have a very different definition of fast than the rest of us. If you are going to try and make money online, then the best approach is to do a lot of research and build up your profit making potential over time. In particular, you want to make sure that you don’t give up your current job or income until you are making enough money, consistently, from online business to allow you to drop your current job. But, what if this isn’t an option?
I’m sure there are people out there in the situation that I was in. Around two or three years ago, I found myself out of job with no income and no idea about what to do. I was getting tired of trying to unsuccessfully trying to find a job, and even my college degree wasn’t helping me out at all. I needed a way of making money, and fast, as rent was due at the end of the month, and I didn’t have anyone to turn to for help.
My education has meant that I am a bit of a researcher, and I was determined to find a way to make money online using the skills that I have, in particular my ability to write, learn and organize. I had absolutely no idea where to start, and I refused to join any site that required money or credit card information to help me in the process. In reality, this wasn’t so much because I was afraid of scams, but because I didn’t have any money anyway.
I now consider myself to be a full-time freelance writer and I work between five and six hours each day. I have the flexibility to choose clients that are not going to be difficult, and to do a range of different types of writing. No one ever told me that working in this way was an option, but I would never go back to working a ‘normal’ 9-to-5 job even if I did have the option.
The early days
It is entirely possible to make money off freelance writing within a month, or even less time. A lot of sites that offer work pay out on a weekly basis or every two weeks. The most important thing to be aware of is that when you start out in a field, you are probably going to earn less than you would working in a normal business. This can put a lot of people off, but it doesn’t stay this way forever.
There are a few different ways of earning money through freelance writing, and what you choose depends a bit on your dedication, how urgently you need money and what your skills are. For example, sites like Freelancer have many different types of jobs, some of which pay well while others do not. Personally, Freelancer was a life-saver in the early days of working online, but I don’t use it so much anymore. Freelancer and similar sites have a lot of security to help you make sure you actually get paid for the work you do, but it can take a considerable amount of time to get accepted for jobs, particularly ones that pay well.
When I started to work freelance, I took advantage of Freelancer combined with a site called Zemandi. There are a lot of sites like Zemandi (article writing sites), and they basically pay people to write blog articles, often around 400 words, with specific keywords and keyword densities. Honestly, the pay for these sites is pretty bad, but it is really good writing practice, and it is money in the bank, which can be critical. Zemandi pays out every week as long as you have earned upwards of $20 in that week, and they have basically no criteria for getting involved.
In my next post, I will talk about how I moved from making bits of money here and there through Zemandi and Freelancer, to approaches that are more profitable and are certainly less tedious. If you are looking for a different approach to making money online, be sure to check out the 5 Day Getting Started Course on this site. Nathaniell and I might take very different approaches to making money online, but I think that our success does show that there are ways of earning money online that do work.
