Product Name: Covert Commissions

What is it?
Covert Commissions is a dashboard that provides its user’s several resources to help them sell products as an affiliate in order to earn a commission. It gives you a central place to focus on all the promotions you’re running by tracking clicks and sales for each product. They host the sales pages and they provide all the content for emails.
There are some major flaws with Covert Commissions. The product does what is promised but the trade-off is just not worth it. To use their dashboard (which you don’t need) you’re giving away the very thing that will ensure your long term success; your customers. In the end you’re just building their business for them.
Before You Buy
There wasn’t a barrage of upsells (additional offers) like I had suspected from this product. It’s common to see at least two or three upsells with most products that you buy online but with Covert Commissions there is only two.
After you make your initial purchase you’re asked to purchase a pro membership to the product. This membership will cost you a whopping $97 and only seems to give you access to a few extra tools and two additional credits each month. We’ll talk about credits in a bit.
The second upsell is the same offer but “deeply discounted”, but not really. If you decline the $97 pro membership, you can instead pay $19 per month and receive the two credits each month. But that’s really not a deal at all because you can buy them in the members area for that same price.
Needless to say, I declined both these offers.
What I Liked
There’s not much to like about this product. It’s a unique idea but it’s not realistic. There is one thing I liked though.
Stunning Members Area
One of the things that immediately caught my attention was the members area. I’ve seen a lot of products with terrible layouts because the creators decided to skimp on things like design, but Covert Commissions is not one of those products.
As soon as you login you’re taken to the main dashboard. This area looks great. The navigation is simple, which allows you to easily find everything you need without wondering about your next step. The main navigation is on the left side of the members area, but you have all your notifications in the top right corner.
The members just feels right. It’s conducive to simplicity and productivity so you can get things done.
What I Didn't Like
The things that make me dislike this product are pretty major. There’s quite a lot of them but I will highlight the most important ones below.
You Don’t Own Anything
Any smart business person knows that your customers are the most important thing in your business. Building and maintaining a reputation with them is the key to long term success. And that’s something that goes for every business, no matter what the market is.
The main selling point for Covert Commissions is that they handle the hosting and setting up your sales pages and emails for you. There are lots of problems with this, but the biggest one is that you never get your customer’s information. They keep it.
Every time a potential buyer enters an email address, pulls out their credit card or provides a phone number, Cover Commissions gets that information. Not you.
That information is the whole reason Covert commissions is willing to do what they’re doing. They know the value of a customer and they aren’t at all afraid to market to your customers anytime they choose. So for basically zero work and effort they collect all your customer’s valuable information for themselves.
It’s not worth it. You build a website with WordPress in minutes. And setting up your emails is really no problem either with a little bit of training. Giving up the future of your business just so you can get it started quicker is like selling 70% of your business on Shark Tank to Marco Rubio for a 100k in startup capital. What you get is not worth what you're giving up.
Limited Affiliate Programs
Part of being an affiliate is signing up to the various programs that sell the types of products you want to offer. For example, if you’re passionate about kayaking then you might to sign up for Amazon’s affiliate program, but you might also want to sign up for others like Dick’s Sporting Goods or even more private, less popular ones. With Covert Commissions you don’t have that option.
Covert Commissions only serves products through Clickbank and JVZoo, leaving you very little room to grow your business. Those two places are actually two of my LEAST FAVORITE affiliate networks simply because of the low quality products they put out.
Granted, those two are very popular networks and lots of people use them, but most people don’t use just them. With each of those networks you’re limited, yet again, to only the products they approve you for. And since both networks tend to stick to digital products only you’ll be stuck if you wish to promote any physical products.
You Have to Pay More to Promote More
Covert Commissions pulls in products from Clickbank and JVzoo; the only two affiliate programs it uses. In the dashboard you can search through all the available products to see which ones you want to promote. But there’s a catch.
When you start out, you’re given five credits. Those credits allow you to choose five products to promote from the dashboard.
If you want to promote more products — and you will — you’ll have to purchase additional credits. Again, one credit equals one product. Additional credits will cost you $9.97 each.
That’s just crazy!
Ten dollars for the privilege of promoting an affiliate product. I understand that they are charging you for the use of their dashboard and tools, but you don’t need those. When you factor in the fact that they get all your customer data, they should be paying you, not the other way around.
With products like this one, I always find that beginners have a higher rate of success when they can learn and improve alongside others who are doing the same things. A community environment, similar to a forum, is best when you’re trying to learn something new like affiliate marketing. However, a lot products just don’t offer it and I don’t know why. It would not have been that hard for these guys to add a forum, or at least allow comments in certain sections of the member's area.
Plugins, software, and other ways to “supercharge” your business rarely work for more than a few months at time. They are rarely tested enough, and I’ve never seen one that I would trust to run my own business. You can learn the same time-tested business principles I use to run my business at the only internet marketing training community I recommend.
Rather than start out with someone doing the legwork for you, why not start from the beginning and learn how to start an affiliate marketing business that you can understand and run yourself.
