Just about any online business relies on writing in some form or another, and getting a writer’s block can cripple your ability to make money from your online business, particularly if the writer’s block lasts for a while. While writer’s blocks can be a pain, they are not an unsolvable problem. In fact, you can sometimes turn your writers block into an advantage, coming back to your work more enthusiastic and ready to go.
1. Working out where the problem lies
Writer’s block is sometimes a random thing, but most often it happens because of something specific. One common example is high amounts of stress can make it difficult to write or to find inspiration. This creates a bad cycle, because not being able to write when your job relies on it, tends to make you more stressed. Because of this, it can be a difficult cycle to get out of.
Another example is writer’s block because you are focusing on a limited range of material. This can easily happen in blog writing, where you end up writing on similar topics each day. Over time it can become hard to find new things to write about.
It can be a little challenging to work out where the problem actually is, but one thing to look at is what you are finding the most stressful. Is it being interrupted while you are trying to work? Is it trying to figure out what topic you are going to write about?
2. One simple solution
The first step to resolving writer’s block, regardless of the cause is to take a break.
Regardless of what your deadlines are and how much you need to do, stress only makes matters worse. Take the time to find a way to de-stress and take a break, even if it is only for a little.
This might involve taking a bath, going for a walk or, if you can, taking a couple of days off.to unwind.
When you take a break from trying to solve your writer’s block, you will often find it solves itself. I always find that having a break from writing helps to clear my head and often gives me new ideas about what I want to write about.
3. Other solutions
Taking a break is a good first step for solving writer’s block, but it doesn’t always work. If there is an underlying problem causing your block, the best way to solve the writer’s block is to address the problem.
This can be challenging, particularly if you don’t know what the problem is to start off with. One of the first approaches I would recommend is to try and find inspiration. If you are writing a blog, you could do this by reading other blogs, or even just picking up a book.
