The idea of earning money online can be very exciting, particularly if you hear stories from people who have made a large amount of money online, or have quit their day job. Online businesses can be a highly successful way of making money, but not for everyone. In fact, for every one person that has succeeded at online business, there are ten who have failed. They might not have had commitment, might not have put the work in, or my simply have lost interest. You can learn how to earn money effectively online, but the question you have to ask yourself is, am I being realistic?
Working online is different than a ‘normal’ job
It’s easy to imagine the benefits of working online. You get to be your own boss, you get to choose your own hours and you can take time off easily without having to worry about it. However, this is just one side of running an online business, and these assumptions aren’t as true as you might think.
As an online business owner, it is very important to ensure you spend enough time on your work and don’t get distracted. Not having a strict schedule actually acts as a disadvantage here, and it can take quite some time for people to get used to running an online business. The video below gives just one example of the challenges that are part of working at home, which many people do not take into account
How much you earn
The first thing to understand about earning money online is that it is a job. This means that you have to work for it, and you have to budget. Most people won’t be able to earn enough from an online business to quit their regular job in just a few weeks or months. And any business venture, online or in real life, should NOT be a last-ditch-effort to when you desperately need money. I see countless people sign up for my business training center saying, “I can't pay you anything because I don't have enough money to eat or pay the bills. But please teach me how to make money on the internet. And do it quickly, because I need it next week.”
As you develop your skills in online business, you will find that your income increases, but keep your expectations of time and profit realistic. Some start making sales in a week. Others don't see any activity on their website for 6 months or more. I can't guess which category you'll be in, but chances are that you probably won’t become an overnight success, so don't be on it. Prepare to struggle. Prepare to be confused. But don't be discouraged. Thousands of people start with zero knowledge and work their way up to internet entrepreneur.
You may make some major mistakes in your online business before you begin to see success. This is the natural learning process for any skill. Would you be able to learn to play piano in a week? Or lose 50 pounds in a month? Nope. Then why is learning how to set up a business on the internet any different? If you put enough time and effort into it, then you will learn what approaches work and begin to develop and grow these methods in consistent profit.
