What is it?
Mario Brown’s Consulting Mastery is a video course that promises to teach you how to make money offering coaching services online.
For the most part, I think Mario gives quality information in this course. The big problem I have with it though, is that it is not newbie friendly like he promises it will be. Instead, I think it’s general information that can be dangerous for beginners. On that simple fact alone, I cannot recommend Consulting Mastery.
Before You Buy
Mario has one other product you’re asked to purchase immediately after you Consulting Mastery.
Facebook Masterclass promises to show you how to use Facebook’s advertising platform to attract new leads and buyers into your business.
Just looking at the video on the Facebook Masterclass sales page the product looks very similar to Consulting mastery. The layout is almost identical, so I’m sure it’s another video-based course, but one that teaches Facebook ads.
Facebook Masterclass will cost you an additional $67, so more than double what the original product costs. Learning how to use Facebook ads properly can help you earn lots of money, but there are cheaper ways of getting this information.
What I Liked
Although I don’t think it’s for beginners, there is one thing I liked about Consulting Mastery.
Learn the Basics
If you were already interested in coaching (offering a consultant service), and you had some idea of how you wanted to do it, then Mario's course can provide you with the next steps. Often with things like this, people tend to get very confused if they are unable to visualize a clear path. If that’s you, Consulting Mastery can be helpful.
In his course, Mario gives you some ideas for qualifying potential clients — you don’t want to accept everyone who inquires about your service of course, nor do you want to accept everyone who can afford your services. Mario makes it clear that the ideal client is one that should be “qualified” through a series of questions, questions he helps you come up with.
Mario also shows you how to build excitement for your service by sending “leads” through a sales funnel when someone shows an interest. This is basic internet marketing stuff but it’s useful, and if you’re considering a business like this you will need to understand it.
Another basic principle Mario teaches is mindset and pricing. I know what you’re thinking: “Who cares”. Right? Well, if this is something you’re considering then these two things might be the most important to understand.
Coaches tend to charge lots of money but as a beginner it’s very difficult to do that. However, you’re trading hours — your personal time — so if you charge clients ‘bargain bin’ prices then you’re going to end up in the poorhouse.
The only way you will be able to charge appropriately is to understand your value and that comes from mindset. This is where I think the Consulting Mastery course was meant to shine; you’re given lots of case studies and shown how to separate clients into group and one-on-one sessions, so you can charge them properly.
What I Didn't Like
Despite a few basics, there’s not much I liked about this product. There are a couple really serious problems I think are worth mentioning.
If you know what the word “consulting” means then you probably understand how you can be paid as a consultant. That’s basically all you’re going to learn from this product. Mario does go into some basic tactics for talking to potential clients and managing your time effectively, but it’s nothing new.
The course seems to be more of a moral booster than anything else. Consultants tend to charge a lot, so in this course Mario is basically trying to get you to the point you’re not afraid to ask for large amounts of money. That’s fine and I do think it’s important but it’s all basic stuff.
A dead-giveaway that Mario’s information is all basic, generalized is his videos.
Coaching without Experience
The idea that you can go from beginner to ‘professional consultant’ within the short time it takes you to watch Mario’s videos is not only ridiculous, it’s dangerous. In fact this is one of the fastest, and most absolute ways to ruin your reputation online.
Am I saying you can’t be a consultant if you want? No, I’m not. What I’m saying is that if you don’t know anything about teaching people, and you’re not passionate enough about something (can be anything) to consider yourself a constant student of that topic, buying Mario’s course is not going to instantly make you an expert.
Being a beginner coach is pretty lame, and it's how we get so many folks that want to be “life coaches” simply because they know there's big bucks to be made in coaching. For many so-called coaches, it's just a means to get themselves out of a 9-5 job, and it's not like they have any real insight into life, business, or whatever they are teaching.
For the most part, professional coaching gigs tend to come after years of experience in the field. There are anomalies sure, but I’m sure anyone you can think of, that offers professional coaching, also offers loads of other services AND products. Typically, all those other products and services come first. Then, after they’ve proven themselves to be an expert in the field, they can demand payment for coaching.
This product is just not for me. It doesn't really tell you enough about how to become a coach unless you are already an experienced person in your field.
Instead of starting out as a coach, why not learn about online business FIRST, then coach it? If you are not making money online, how can you expect to teach people how to do it? Learn the basics of affiliate marketing and build a profitable website first. Then, you can teach people how to do the same, and make big bucks coaching them.
