What is it?
Auto Prospecting system is a course made up of two ebooks and one video. The course was created to teach its buyer's about the effectiveness and best practices of using cold-emailing as a source for gaining new clients.
This product delivers on its promise. I have no qualms with that. If you buy the product you will get exactly what you paid for: an ebook about cold-emailing. The problem I have is that cold-emailing is not worthwhile tactic for anyone looking to build a business online. It involves a lot of spamming and other less-than-ideal marketing tactics. It delivers on its promise but I disagree with it on a fundamental level.
Before You Buy
Luckily, there was only one upsell when I bought this product. Usually there at least two or three, and I've seen as many as ten. So a product with just one upsell is nice to see.
This product will cost you an additional $27, and it comes with quite a few stipulations. I'll get to those in a minute. The product is supposed to provide you with personal coaching from Lee Naval, the product's creator.
He promises, “Hand holding like you've never seen before.”
But what's odd is, that you have to qualify for this additional product. The requirements include:
- Generate at least $10,000 Per Month
- Be a FULL TIME Internet Marketer
Those qualifications are a little ridiculous. If you meet those requirements then you really wouldn't need someone to hold your hand. I'd say, if you're doing that well on your own then Lee's advice probably isn't going to help you much anyway. If you are making $10000 a month, you wouldn't be buying a junky $13 product and asking the owner to help.
One more thing that's worth mentioning is the way Lee put this salespage together. Once you read all the content on the page there a “Buy” button directly below it. But if you want to decline this upsell you have to scroll down the page so far that it's almost comedic.
Just to see, I counted how many times I had to scroll with my mouse wheel. I know it sounds a little crazy but I wanted to see exactly how far it was. I counted 26. That's right I had to scroll the page 26 times just to get to the “no thanks” button at the bottom of the page.
That's just insane. I've never seen anyone do that before.
What I Liked
Although there are some things about Auto Prospecting System that I disagree with, there are some things I really liked about it. Had this product covered another topic as well as it covers this one, it would likely be one of the better products I've reviewed.
Lots of Facts
One thing I really enjoyed about this product is that Lee provides a lot facts. There are a lot of products on the market that are filled with general information, theories or opinions. That is not the case with Auto Prospecting System.
Very seldom do you see a product that is backed with real research and statistics. Lee has done a great job of not only explaining how cold-emailing works, but proving its effectiveness. He has created a fairly in-depth guide with interviews, case studies and statistics to back the use of cold-emailing for anyone in need of new clients.
Once you've made your purchase you're taken to a members area. This area allows to easily download the product. I enjoyed how simplistic this area was. There's no confusion about what you're supposed to do, or where you're supposed to go next.
It's all very straightforward. You have to download the ebooks though. They don't host them on their own, which is a bit of a bummer, but it's not too bad.
I was very surprised to get a follow up email from Lee asking if I needed any help and that I could email him with questions. There's a webinar coming up I might attend if I can find the time. Adding a live webinar seems to be a thing that people are doing now, including one from James Renouf that I attended. I'd like to see if it's actually helpful or an upsell to something.
Regardless, the email seemed very personal! Although I'm not into the product itself, I comment Lee for his level of support so far.
What I Didn't Like
Unfortunately there some things I really don't like about Auto Prospecting System. There are a lot of potential problems with it, so I'll try to outline only the most important one for you now.
This is a touchy subject for some people. Generally, in the marketing world, cold-emailing is frowned upon. But a lot of people do it, and it is effective. However, I don't think it's wise to try to build a business using only cold-emailing tactics.
The only time I think cold-emailing a potential client or business partner is when it's a one on one thing. For example, if you stumble upon a website or business with a problem that you can solve. Then I think it's okay to send that person a cold-email. Beyond that though, I think you're opening yourself up to things that will damage your reputation.
Personally, I get people emailing me all the time with offers to improve my SEO, get me more traffic, and bla bla bla. I hate it. If I wanted these services, I'd look for them. Ignore. Mark as spam. Delete. That's what I do with cold emails.
Scraping is a term used to define the act of quickly gathering lots of information from various sources online. In this case it's used to define the act of gathering email addresses from sites Google, Facebook and others.
Unfortunately, Lee suggests scraping for email address that you can then use to market to. This is a bad idea because the majority of those emails aren't even going to be valid. and of the ones that are valid, about 80% to 90% will mark your message as spam, if they open it at all.
Ever get a message soliciting services that you don't recognize? They probably got it using a scraper, or buying it from someone that used one.
Spam / Mass cold mailing
Basically, the majority of this ebook's contents condone spam in one way or another — Scraping, mass-mailing a bunch of unknowing people and using dummy email accounts — all that stuff falls under the word “spam”.
There are plenty of people who do things like this everyday, but it's no way to build a business. Sure, you can probably make a few sales here or there. But it's the equivalent of buying a roll of scratch off tickets.
I have been receiving emails from Paperboyweb Marketing continuing to promote ALPS in my inbox. The catch is that they do not contain an “unsubscribe” button. They are from a gmail address.
Imagine being locked into an autoresponder with no option to unsub. A nightmare for a newbie that doesn't know how to create a mail filter to automatically delete any emails from a specific address. What a scuzzy move Lee.
I will also add that I get cold emailed just about every single day. I mark as spam, unsubscribe, and delete. If the sender continues, I create a filter to filter out their address. It's annoying as hell because I like a clean inbox, but it takes all of 2 seconds, and just makes me think that cold emailing is not something I would ever want to do.
