Product Name: Affiliate Project X
Product Owner: Chris McNeeny
What Is It?
Affiliate Project X is an eBook of information about making money online through affiliate marketing, specifically by using techniques that most affiliate marketers do not use.
Before You Buy:
Simply put, Affiliate Project X is heavily hyped and does not even come close to living up to the hype. The actual product is a pdf file, around 71 pages in length and there is also an access page that provides a video for people completely inexperienced in affiliate marketing.
The pdf contains a decent amount of information, focusing on specific approaches that are designed to increase the profit that can be gained through affiliate marketing. These techniques do have some relevance to the modern day affiliate marketing environment, but they certainly are not as revolutionary as the author makes them out to be.
What I Liked:
I have reviewed a number of affiliate marketing eBooks before, and they have a tendency to be very sparse in content, and use large font sizing and lots of spacing to try to hide that fact. Affiliate Project X did have a decent amount of content within the eBook, which was a plus.
Another thing I liked about Affiliate Project X, is that it is a legitimate concept. Affiliate Project X is essentially promoting specific ways to improve affiliate profits, such as through pre-sell approaches. Some of the methods that Affiliate Project X promotes can be effective and may be helpful to some affiliate marketers. In fact, I have seen a large number of sites take this approach, with varying degrees of success.
What I Didn’t Like:
Creators of products like Affiliate Project X have a habit of using language to convince readers that the product is one of a kind and too good to be true. What I find particularly amusing is that the same words and language is used across many different products, even when they are not similar at all.
As I have read sites like this I have noticed that the more hype that is present in the language of the website, the less information they actually give the user about the product. The image below is just one small sample of the language that is present throughout the website.
Now, I understand that the author can’t actually give away his big ‘secret’ on the sales page, else no one would buy the product, but what I don’t like is having to wade through so much hype just to figure out what exactly I am meant to be buying.
Simply put, the sales page of the website is filled with over-the-top claims about the effectiveness of Affiliate Project X and its ability to revolutionize the affiliate marketing process. Honestly, I don’t imagine that any product could possibly live up to this level of hype, and I don’t feel any different after reading through the Affiliate Project X eBook.
In fact, some aspects of the hype are simply untrue:
Affiliate Project X has been around since 2006. It was a heavily promoted product when it first came out and continues to be today. Because of this, there are a large number of people who have learned the techniques that Affiliate Project X promotes and are using it on their own websites.
Additionally, it’s very important to note that the amount of profit that the author of Affiliate Project X promotes is not the level of profit that most people will experience.
Many people who start affiliate marketing do fail and many more make modest profits. The reason for this is that affiliate marketing, even when using the techniques of Affiliate Project X is a type of business that requires time investment and effort. It is very possible to succeed at affiliate marketing, but it important to treat it as a business, rather than a ‘get quick rich’ tool.
The Content Itself
Unlike most products I’ve reviewed, the content of Affiliate Project X is legitimate and it is legal. I can honestly say that Affiliate Project X would help affiliate marketers earn profit to a degree, although not nearly as much as the product owner promotes.
One of the key approaches that Affiliate Project X is focused on is the idea of over-hyping products, convincing readers of how wonderful the product is. This is an approach that is common online and you can see it in action simply by reading the product page for Affiliate Project X.
Sites that use this approach frequently end up being sites that do nothing more than to press readers into buying products. This can lead to profits, but it also means that people are less likely to stay on the website, and the website owner loses a significant amount of their legitimacy and authority.
You can see this approach by searching for reviews of just about any product like Affiliate Project X. Most of the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, and even use much of the same language as the promotional page for Affiliate Project X.
Many reviews do not list a single negative thing about the product, even though every product does have negative elements. As a reader, it is immediately clear to me that these ‘reviewers’ are doing nothing more than trying to make profit, so I ignore their review and site immediately.
By following the approaches of Affiliate Project X, you risk driving away long-term traffic and interest in your website in favor of quick sales. If you want to make this trade, then Affiliate Project X may be useful for you, but honestly, I don’t think it is effective in the long run.
A final note is that some of the techniques in Affiliate Project X focus on workarounds to Google. Affiliate Project X was created in 2006, and Google has made considerable changes to its search algorithms since then. In recent years, Google has been favoring changes that promote quality and content over attempts to manipulate the system, meaning that some of Affiliate Project X’s approaches are unlikely to be effective now, and may decrease in effectiveness as Google’s algorithms continue to develop.
Not for Beginners
From the hype alone, you might think that Affiliate Project X is a good way to start off an online business for beginners, but it really isn’t. Affiliate Project X focuses on techniques of improving affiliate marketing profit, which means that you have to be familiar with the processes of affiliate marketing and writing content to make use of these techniques.
If you are looking to use this product an understanding of affiliate marketing will help you to understand what techniques are relevant to your particular site.
Who Is This Product For?
Affiliate Project X does contain some useful approaches for affiliate marketers and may help to increase profits for some people. This product is useful for people who are already actively engaged in affiliate marketing and are looking for some inspiration.
However, the price tag of $97 is pretty high for the product, especially as most readers will come away with nothing more than a few new ideas. This product might be useful for affiliate marketers who feel that they are stuck in a rut, but there are less expensive ways of getting ideas and inspiration online.
Online business has become a very popular way of making money, particularly for people who do not like their current job or are unable to get one because of the economy. Products like Affiliate Project X take advantage of this by offering a ‘solution’, but like many products, Affiliate Project X is nowhere near as good as it appears to be.
It's really hard to compare with places like Wealthy Affiliate, that offer update training and live support. Quality is the future of affiliate marketing!
