When it comes to writing online, one of the decisions you have to make is how you want to go about it. I have already talked about sites like Freelancer in depth, but I want to talk about another type of website where you can make money by writing. These are article writing sites, where you are paid a set amount per word or per article. These websites can be beneficial, but you need to know exactly what you are getting into, as there are also some considerable disadvantages.
1. Available work
The amount of work that is available is probably the biggest advantage of these types of sites. For most sites like this, there is close to an unlimited amount of work on a range of different topics. This gives you the ability to pick and choose somewhat, but it also means that it doesn’t matter whether you want to work ten minutes a day or ten hours, you will always find work.
This also means that you don’t have to compete against twenty other people to pick up an order, making the process faster overall. With these sites, you spend more time writing, and less time trying to get work.
2. Skill based
A lot of websites like this reward you for the amount of work you do for them or the level of skill you show. For example, some sites may give you a pay bonus for completing a certain number of articles a month or give you access to better paid articles if you show consistently high quality of work.
This means that over time you will earn better money using these websites than you did before. You also get used to exactly what is required, so you get faster at getting jobs done.
The downside to these types of websites, and it is a big downside, is that the pay rate is much lower than other approaches for writing. For example, you might get $1.00 per hundred words if you are lucky on one of these sites, but it can be as low as $0.50 cents. If you are churning out articles fast or are getting bonuses for your work, this might not matter.
Certainly, it is a better pay rate than spending all day applying for jobs and not actually getting them.
Some people love article writing websites and other people hate them. Personally, I find that they can act as a good backup when other orders are difficult to come by, or when I am simply looking for something that requires a little less concentration.
You may need to shop around for one that works for you, but these types of websites are very common. Reviews can help a lot, but be careful when it comes to reading reviews, because many people are very biased, and write negative reviews simply because they do not like the type of website they are reviewing.
If you are interested in making money online, whether it is through these types of websites, or a different form of online business, I recommend checking out the 5 Day Getting Started Email Course, which is completely free and easy to follow.
