Product Name: $200 in 20 Minutes
Product Owner: Desmond Ong
Advertised Price: $9.95
What is it?
$200 in 20 minutes is a video course offered by Desmond Ong. It teaches one of the methods he uses to create an income from affiliate marketing online. The course is made up entirely of videos that are housed in a members area.
Basically, it teaches you how to find an offer to promote, how to set up a landing page, and how to drive traffic to that landing page. $200 in 20 minutes does not cover everything — it covers very specific tools, methods and resources you can use to follow one simple strategy.
$200 in 20 minutes is nothing new or outrageous. However, Desmond does a great of explaining his money-making method from start to finish while providing as much valuable information as possible throughout the course. The name is a little misleading but overall, this is a good product and it's worth the $9.95 investment.
Before You Buy
Desmond Ong has gotten some bad reviews on my site before, namely Fast Income Club and Emergency Cash Kit. I'm surprised that this one wasn't too bad.
But there are some tricky upsells associated with this product. And, while I liked the product itself, I wasn't very fond of the upsells.
This one is supposed to “automate” everything that Desmond lays out in his course, $200 in 20 minutes. It's called Income Black Box and will cost you an additional $19.95.
Typically, anything that automates the process of marketing online, or building your business in anyway is going to be total crap. I didn't buy this product so I can't say for sure. But I can speak from experience: automation is usually not a good idea.
This one comes at an additional $29.95. It's supposed to be a “secret invite-only” product. However, I was able to access the page multiple times.
The thing that bothers me most about this upsell is the methods and language used to try to lure you into to buying it. For example, this image sits at the top of the page and leads you to believe you might cost yourself the original $9.95 you paid for the original product if you navigate away or close this page.
And then again, at the bottom of the page you see more of the same thing. The language used here is supposed to make you think you'll be costing yourself money if you don't spend more right now.
I did not like the way they handled the upsell process for this product at all. I guess it's part of the “don't hate the player, hate the game” mentality, but I still don't like it.
What I Liked
Surprisingly, there was a lot to like about $200 in 20 minutes. It's a very thorough and focused course, that's inexpensive full information you can get started with immediately.
The course is full of truly actionable advice. For each step, Desmond walks you through everything you need to know. Each video is a combination of him talking to you, and him showing you, via a screen recording done with his computer.
This is the perfect mixture for most training products, because you get to see not only how Desmond describes things, but you get to see how he actually does them.
Desmond Shows Alternative (cheaper) Methods
Desmond shows you how to create an Aweber form that's hosted with them, so you don't have to buy any landing page software or additional hosting. He admits, this method isn't going to convert as good as the others he outlines in this course, but it's a free alternative for those on a budget.
Support Offered (even encouraged)
In the first video, the introduction video, Desmond gives you an overview of what he's about to teach in this course. But he also offers his support in this video. There's nothing really abnormal about any of this so far, but he takes it one step further by offering his personal email address and his time.
He encourages you to contact him anytime and says he will offer his assistance personally. He then goes on to invite you to “just call or hangout”, something I've never heard any other product creator do, or say.
He goes on to say “it's very lonely travelling to conferences and none of my friends understand the kind of work I do. So I'd love to talk with all of you, maybe we can travel together.”
Wow. Pretty cool, I'd say.
Real Traffic Strategies
Too many products talk of “making hundreds or thousands of dollars with one simple trick”, without ever telling you how to actually get people to it. You can have all the tricks in the world, if nobody sees them, they are worthless.
Desmond does not do this.
He shows you his main traffic strategies as well a few he doesn't use all the time. He does a great job of explaining the differences between them, and how you can maximize each one.
What I Didn't Like
No product is perfect. Although this one, has a good rating, there's a few things I'd like you to know about.
Affiliate Networks are ‘Meh'
Desmond teaches you to find your affiliate offers from places like Clickbank and Clicksure. These are two of the largest affiliate networks on the web, but in my opinion they aren't all that great. They house mostly digital products that are often low quality.
Don't get me wrong, there are some good offers within both networks. And there are tons of affiliates who use them with great success. But many marketers tout them as the most amazing way to make money online. The truth is, most of the offers featured on Clickbank are junk, so good offers are the exception to the rule. The vast majority of the offers on Clicksure are pure scams.
This is Not the Total Package
This product is not going to teach you everything you need to know about building a business online. It only covers one method… Desmond's method
This isn't necessarily a dig at Desmond, or his product. It's just that finding all the information you need to build an online business in one course is going to be close to impossible. You need a lot more more than just a few videos and one man's help. No matter how helpful that man might be.
It gets a good rating because the product was good. However, it's going to take more than 20 minutes of your time, and $200 is not guaranteed. In combination with some of the tricky upsells, it's just not something I would give an awesome review.
